Surreptitious Underhand B**tard BOSSES

Post by Skykid »

Not necessarily the obvious bosses (Futari Ultra Spiritual Larsa) but more those guys who turn up in the middle of a stage or early in a game and unexpectedly drive you to Karate chopping your console. Or perhaps a boss who spits patterns you just can't click with, so you always get there a bag of nerves and are subsequently shafted during the same old fray in the same old way.

Reveal your secret nemesis.

I find that a lot of Cave's stage 2 bosses are pretty aggravating. DDP DOJ/DFK, Mushihimesama, Futari (at least on higher difficulties) are examples. Even if I don't take hits or bomb, they're just very tense battles for me. Stage 3 and sometimes even 4 tend to feel much easier.

Not something that impacts me personally, but Shin Seseri is pretty out there.

Kolobok in Sine Mora is really silly at points.

Ketsui stage 3 boss is a lot harder than the stage 4 boss, I like both bosses too much to be salty about it though. Then there's the exact same thing with DOJ.
There might have been an explicit desire to place a real 'hump' to overcome in the middle of the game, for many devs, look at Yagawa and his "cloud" levels for instance.

Ketsui stage 2 boss for me.
I can no-miss the whole game except for that guy, he always ruins my ura runs.

Yeah, quite a few Stage 2 bosses for me too...Dratrion in Dimahoo and Midi in Ibara always give me trouble. Madzella in Batsugun did for quite some time too, though I like to think I've gotten better at him.

B-Wings by Data East Corp

Stage 29 Boss (second final stage)
Usually before each boss, a powerup that is recommended for the boss is supplied. DECO decides to screw you up by giving you the wrong one. This boss requires a side-firing powerup, as the weak point is only vulnerable from the side of the boss. An earlier powerup gives the Jump-over projectile, which can penetrate defenses over a certain range before doing damage upon landing, but is quite hard to use. The supplied powerup for the boss was a simple fast-firing forward projectile wing.

These bosses aren't very hard or annoying, but ketsui stage 4 midboss and final boss remind me of meatballs. It's annoying as fuck, i just can't get rid of the thought of meatballs during these bosses. I don't even like them.

DOJ Stage 2 boss is dangerous and has annoying patterns.

Mushihimesama Futari's Stage 3 boss might be the hardest boss in that game. Definitely harder than the stage 4 boss, and probably about equal with the stage 5 boss.

In which mode? The difficulty of each boss and stage in Original, Maniac and God/Ultra can vary rather significantly since the patterns are quite different. In Original, it's not a trivial boss, but it's far from excruciatingly difficult or anything to no-miss. Black Label in particular since you get enough slowdown that its final pattern is easy to avoid before it gets too fast/dense that you need to bomb it.

With the exception of the last attack, I'm pretty sure the stage 3 boss can be mostly tap dodged... the trick is learning what direction to tap in based on how the boss moves.

Absolute Defender. One of the few times where I felt the difficulty was spiteful rather than challenging. High speed bullets + RANDOMLY ordered (and savage) patterns = guaranteed rage quit. I think I've actually been mentally scarred by this bastard.

This. 80% of the attacks by the St3 boss are aimed and trivialized by tap dodges.

For me gonna be the Gradius IV's Bubble Core. I don't know what, but the movement of the bubbles is retarded, plus random speed. Stupid RNG.

We'll I'll be. I'll have to look into this at some point. The stage 3 boss has stopped many good credits from me before.
