Lumagen Vision HDQ questions

Post by akumajo »

Hi guys,

I'm thinking to upgrade my setup for 480p/720p progressive sources (PS2/DC/GC/WII/XBOX/PS3/X360).

I owned an Optoma HD3000 in the past for these purpose but I was not happy with it...

So here we go :

1) Who have one and use it for video games ?
2) Would you use it for 480i vs XRGB-Mini ?
3) How much lag is added ?
4) Would you buy it for less than 500/400€ ?

Thanks.

not anymore.
2) Would you use it for 480i vs XRGB-Mini ?
no, 480i is handled by a SiI504, same processor as in the iScan HD+ -- that's rather outdated compared to a Marvell QDEO.
3) How much lag is added ?
for progressive sources, the HDQ is rather fast. Something around a frame I would guess.
4) Would you buy it for less than 500/400€ ?
kinda expensive. I had two units on hand. Sold one for 300 and the other for 330 I think.

If you get one (eventually) get back to me. There're a few quirks about calibrating the analogue inputs...

thanks for the feedback

I doubt that I will able to find one for 300€ but who knows :). Maybe better to save money for a Crystalio II ?

You are still using a VP50Pro ?

Why exactly do want to replace the HD3000 ?
I doubt that I will able to find one for 300€
I got both units from the UK. One off ebay, the other one on the AVForums.

I currently ACTIVELY use the Mini, a 50Pro, HD3000, CII and a Videon Omega unit.

So many videoprocessor :). XRGB-Mini + CII should be the perfect setup no ? (only talking about videogames).

I sold my HD3000 a long time ago because of incompatibility with my old setup (while using with XRGB3) and artifacts on some sources. Maybe the unit was faulty. In the end I hated my experience with the HD3000, should I reconsider :P .

depends on wether you want something else for 480i or not. The CII is quite similar to the HD3000 in raw performance. You can work around the HD3000/PS2 bug with a component to HDMI converter up front. The CII has a fixed videomode which is a bit better for deinterlacing. The HDQ hase a more coarse scaling (in direct comparison), but still very nice. And it's the more trustworthy processor by a long mile

Just go look for a HDQ - certainly worth a try. Last one on AVForums (in late november) sold for 130 or 140 GBP only.

For 480i, if XRGB-Mini is really better than CII/HDQ/HD3000 then I dont care. Oh well I still dont know :), better wait for XRGB-4...

Just curious, why to you keep a Videon Omega ? I have a Vigatec FX2+ myself but I dont use it (XRGB-Mini instead).

sentimental reasons  It's integrated into my rack and I mainly use it if a system boots up in 480i and when I switch to 480p afterwards and using a processor which cannot handle the 480i output...

I might give another chance to HD3000 but only when I will know the input lag on progressive sources. Did you try with Leo Tester ?

What was the ps2 bug again ? As far I remember it was for 480i games.

Ok, I may found a unit for 150€. Will wait :).

For 480i I will use Xrgb-Mini so no problem.

do you guys have any idea how much CIIs are going for in the USA (or shipped to the USA) and where can you buy them? I'm not seeing any on ebay.

Place a classified on AVS or Videogon and you can certainly find a CII. Expect $600 for a 3100, $700+ for a 3300, $800+ for a 3800.

So I bought and received another HD3000.
I tested leo input lag tester but I was not able to have a stable result. It's start @24ms then 25, then 26, etc, up to 44ms then back to 24ms. Infinite loop  .

The HD3000 has an unlocked output, which means the timing of the source is resynced and retimed all the time. That's why you get jumping results. On the average this sounds like 1.5 frames which is pretty much ok.

How do you like the HD3000's processing in your 2nd attempt ? I still think it's breathtakingly good. So much better than the Framemeister's 480p processing.

Didnt have time to test a console. Will do soon.

Is it possible to lock the output ?

No, unfortunately not. HD3000 and CII are unlocked only. Only the Radiance can lock the Gennum's output.

it's not this critical, since most the newer 480p systems are pretty much spot on, when it comes to NTSC timings.

so I guess that the first result should be the one, plz post your results when possible

24 - 11.4~5 = 12.5~6 ms (minimum input lag)
44 - 11.4~5 = 32.5~6 ms (maximum input lag)

11.4~5 ms is my pc monitor.

oh also, is C05 latest firmware ?
