What is your preferred arcade stick grip type? [poll broken]
I have been experimenting with slightly different grip techniques and have found that I can't quite settle on my favorite because it seems to depend on the situation and/or game. So im taking a poll to survey what all you fellow shmuppers prefer.
EDIT: for some reason the poll is currently broken. Please submit your answer as a reply.

Well to be a ham-fisted cunt is certainly not a desired attribute. However using your poll options this is unfortunately the category under which I fall.....
Won't let me vote... Says my vote is invalid?
Perhaps it's because I'm an Irish ham-fisted cunt and not an American ham fisted cunt

Yea, more pics please of what you mean - just keep your nails short.
For those with d-pads I wonder whether they place the middle of the thumb or the edge of the thumb on the centre of the d-pad? I think I tend to play with the middle of the thumb covering the centre, but now that I played on the psp e1000 I discovered that I cover the mono stereo speaker when I do that, so that the sound gets annoyingly interrupted. Apparently Sony playtesters play with the edge of the thumb.

I prefer to have the balltop between my thumb and my index finger, resting my hand on the control panel/arcade stick base. It's very comfortable and movements are very precise. Alas, as I was in an accident, I can no longer use this grip and has to use the wineglass grip now.

I have been experimenting with the grip shown in Hagane's pic. I'm more used to the shaft between the pinky and ring finger but I find that between the middle and ring finger (shown in the pic) gives me better control with quick sudden movements but less control when trying to do micro dodging using quarter-circle movements (eg: espgaluda II stage 5 boss final pattern). I'm guessing that's because I'm trained on doing the quarter-circle hadokens in sf using the ring/pinky grip. I imagine it just takes some retraining to get those movements more accurate with the middle/pinky grip.

Actually there are a few Street Fighter 4 players I know of who play using the method you describe and actually quite good despite their handicap. This guy who goes by Broly is one of the best:ChainsawGuitarSP wrote:I just roll my face all over the buttons and stick, always gets good results.

I call my style, "Grip it and Rip it"
Too much time spent on Happ sticks and fightans growing up ... plus my huge (tiny) manly (girly) beefy (noodly) arms.
I like to think this is why I can't play shmups properly.
