Who charges that kind of money to arrange music? If they were recording the new arrangements on the classic consoles...then I might understand the price. Anyway, I suppose it was the fee just to see up a CD print run, maybe. Or, perhaps (for the folks spending $5 or whatever to get just a digital download) Kickstarter was seen as the proper venue to get interest started.Turrican wrote:I think you've got it the wrong way: the 3CD set (well, now 4 CD set) is entirely composed of new arrangements of the Turrican soundtracks. Basically the Amiga trilogy is completely re-scored with modern instruments. The recording straight from consoles is only for the optional USB drive which will contain the original sound versions, and that wasn't in the original plan, it was something that they came up with later, to meet fans' demands.Ed Oscuro wrote:What's wrong with me is that I'm wondering why he needed $75,000 to record stuff off old consoles. I would expect it's expensive, but more in the range of half that. Granted the orchestral part will be very expensive, but wasn't that being billed as an extra anyway?

I pledged $75 USD. I almost forgot about the deadline; only remembered to pledge ~3h before it was over.
@system11
Congratulations for getting a music box this time; crazy luck for checking at the right moment or did you know more were going to be offered?
I'm surprised they sold out as quickly as they did; $1,500 USD isn't exactly cheap.

They announced it on the updates page, and the exact time they'd be going up, so I was sat there reloading the page after upping my amount ahead of time. There must have been other people doing this, they vanished in under half a minute.Friendly wrote:I pledged $75 USD. I had to look up a video of Turrican II to remind myself of where that piece played... I guess I've spent more time with the first game than the second. Anyway, it sounds great music box-ified.

Wow, one and a half thousand dollars for a music box.system11 wrote:They added 4 more musical boxes today at 7pm CEST. All four were gone within 20-25 seconds, but one of them went to me
You made me feel better about every superfluous toy I've ever purchased, System11, I hope that thing brings you unparalleled joy.

Well, if it doesn't it's unlikely to do anything other than go up in price..

I hope so. Although aware of it being well-received, until now I had no idea Turrican (or its music) had such a diehard fanbase.system11 wrote:Well, if it doesn't it's unlikely to do anything other than go up in price..

Re: Turrican Soundtrack Anthology - Kickstarter (Funded)
Back in the day, I used to keep re-playing the first two Turrican games over and over again, long after I had beaten them (which normally was all I cared about), just to listen the music. I ended up knowing the games in and out and finishing them everytime with 20-30 spare lives left.Skykid wrote:Although aware of it being well-received, until now I had no idea Turrican (or its music) had such a diehard fanbase.

Where will you be able to buy the 4CD set?

Yup, Turrican was huge in it's day. Honestly it's a shame Factor 5 don't do a new Turrican game even if it needs Kickstarter.Skykid wrote:I hope so. Yeah, Konami could do a 2D Castlevania as well. There are at least 200,000 people in the West that would love one.

I'd be all for that if they stop recycling graphics from previous games at the same time.neorichieb1971 wrote:Yeah, Konami could do a 2D Castlevania as well. There are at least 200,000 people in the West that would love one.

At this point in time unless you backed the project initially, the only way you'll be able to buy it is from someone else who did which may be marked up considerably.

Castlevania HD was really successful in japan even if it wasn't that great just because of the co-op elements. I really don't get why they still haven't made a new game without recycling stuff improving on the same formulaneorichieb1971 wrote:Yeah, Konami could do a 2D Castlevania as well. If nothing else, we still need the Julius Belmont 1999 game. I'm kind of surprised they haven't done that one yet...

Interestingly, the instructions say temperature will make them play faster or slower, there's someone else who has posted a video and mine sounds a bit nicer IMO as his is playing a bit slower.

Is it finished yet? I can't find the last update I had it was that long ago.

it's very close - probably within 2013. Although really, the majority of us backers just want Chris to polish tracks until he feels it's the absolute best he can do. So noone rushes for a deadline.
Re: Turrican Soundtrack Anthology - Kickstarter (Funded)
It is finally finished and everyone who pledged $25 and above should have received an email with bandcamp links to download the four discs of the set.
Now let's put the earphones, give it a good listening, and let's discuss.

Aargh, I knew I forgot something in the morning. I read the email yesterday evening before going to bed and wanted to download it immediately after getting up but as always I was late today and forgot about it. A friend just sent me a picture of the cover. Is that Celal's work?
Re: Turrican Soundtrack Anthology - Kickstarter (Funded)
It's not bad! I think it sounds a lot punchier than the earlier Turrican arrangement album. And it has true-to-the-era rompler sounds all over it. Very cool.
