S&P2 - post your peronal records

Post by Obiwanshinobi »

I'd like to know how many people on here, where understanding of the game's qualities should be above average, can be bothered playing it without continues.

As you can see, I'm nowhere near 1cc on Hard (frankly, I didn't even try it on Easy or Normal either). Which brings me to certain points I believe need to be re-made.

Playing without continues does not equal going for 1cc (see above).
Mapping the sword attack onto some other button than fire helps.

(I played all the way through on Normal as Isa, then Kachi using the deafult setup; Stage Select made clear to me that tapping fire button to perform slash hinders my performance.)

Here's a playlist of my personal scores for each invidual stage on Normal. I think my 1cc score for Normal was somewhere around 400-450 millions but I haven't been playing this one for quite some while. Hopefully I'll have some time to practice for that elusive 500 run and maybe even try Hard mode properly this year.

In summer 2010 I topped out with this on normal:

I never could beat Deko's fist fight so I gave up on the 1CC back then and haven't really touched it since (but I should).

I played the Japanese version a lot, pretty much only Isa Normal though. I just checked and my ALL score is still second on that board. I played through the North American version too, but some of the stages are just too long with bosses you can milk forever (stages 2 and 6 mostly), there's no way I'd ever try for another full game run.

Here are my score tables for the North American and Japanese versions of the game. Stage 5 gives you gold coins for shooting the bouncing boogers in the Japanese version which is why my score is so much higher in that version. It's also my favourite stage in the game. Fast paced with great bosses.

I am still not sure if milking is more profitable than playing flawlessly. Max multiplier x (the extra coin/medal instead of health pack + time bonus) = many points. Unless I'm mistaken and multiplier doesn't multiply points for items and time bonus.Though if I really wanted to know, I'd watch some superplays.

Milking is the best way to score : max multiplier + try and get a lot of silver coins from sending back missiles to ennemies. See Stage 0 boss for instance where you send back red missiles to the crates on the ceiling = silver coins harvest, 80.000 points each.
Multiplier does multiply coins points, but I am not sure about time bonus. Anyway, time bonus is way less than coins.

As for my personnal best, all Normal with Isa :

Code: Select all

Entire game : 331.681.798
STAGE 0 : 22.797.137
STAGE 1 : 29.936.157
STAGE 2 : 79.036.348
STAGE 3 : 57.579.372
STAGE 4 : 40.434.630
STAGE 5 : 24.373.145
STAGE 6 : 69.220.447
STAGE 7 : 42.146.890
Bravo jolie Ln, tu as trouvé : l'armée de l'air c'est là où on peut te tenir par la main.

Another point begging to be touched upon is the most comfortable position while playing such games (the kind where wrists should be braced against something). I need a pillow between my lap and hand, but I can imagine different physique and furniture than mine make for different needs.
