I'm a bit of all of the above to be honest. My wife hates it. Anyone else as childish as me?

I stomp my feet like a little kid, throwing a tantrum. Seriously. My roomate and his friend both did one of those *slow head-turn to see what the crap is going on* the other night when I died on Dangun, or whatever I was playing
I'll usually shout something, too. I remember talking to my mom, on the phone, and in mid conversation I'd outburst with some sort of wrath, and she'd be like "What's the matter?!" And I'd be like, "oh, I just died on this game," and she'd be like, "Well, if it makes you that mad, then stop playing!"

I do that too, but something about restarting from Stage 3 or 4 doesn't sit well with me.Ganelon wrote:Am I the only one who feels a bit annoyed and just starts over again without doing something to express my profound anger?

Honestly, shmups don't piss me off as some other sorts of games. The game that pissed me off the most was Maximo: Ghosts to Glory. That one caused me to throw my controller a number of times. At least I beat that P.O.S. game.Ganelon wrote:Am I the only one who feels a bit annoyed and just starts over again without doing something to express my profound anger?

i'm as childish as i can be while living with my parents.
i also like to shout an hearty "fuck you" and flash a finger at bosses that give me trouble, when they finally go down. DOJ level two, i'm looking at you beyotch!
swearing is commonplace, however volume must be muted is their are two little ones trying to sleep.
on that note though, i no longer go on the warpath, when i lose a round. half a dozen controllers and my first gba suffered during this period.

Heh, for me it's not really a matter of if I die or when or where I die, but rather how I die. If something nails me and I'm just not skilled enough to evade it properly, then I might just grumble "ah nuts" and be done with it...however, if I'm nailed with a) invisible bullets/obstacles, b) a point-blank or last-second "bastard bullet," c) something which pops up in a place you'll NEVER be able to avoid unless you've played the stage before, d) an ever-so-slight nick on my hitbox which I swear should have missed, e) enemies/shots slipping through my inadequately-slow fire rate, or some such thing, sometimes the game will earn a slightly stronger rebuke from me...usually nothing worse than "you bastard!" though. Occasionally I'll smack my hand down on the seat next to me, but I don't think I've ever thrown or broken a controller.Ganelon wrote:Am I the only one who feels a bit annoyed and just starts over again without doing something to express my profound anger?

The poll needs to be checkboxes instead of radio buttons
- Sailor with tourettes
- Tearing apart controlers
- Smashing controllers
- Throwing controller at TV
- Throwing controller at floor
- Throwing controller at 2nd couch
- Punching couch
- Punching TV (most common)
And my best ever, kicking my TV through the back of my mame cabinet into the wall.
Yes I have an anger problem.

I never get angry at all. After all, its not the games fault you suck!
I simply yell a loud shout "FUCK"!, or something similar. No big deal really.
I'll just try to do better next time around...if I'm outa practice with a given game, well what would you expect?
Throwing/breaking stuff (controllers) is DUMB...please stop the insanity!

I have to admit to having done in a controller or two in my day... I'm not really good enough at these types of games to get far enough in that I need to break something when I get beat. My banging and on things these days is usually reserved for bad beats in my online poker games (yelling usually isn't part of it though.) If I get annoyed occasionally I'll just hit the off switch on my cabinet (since 95% of my shmupping is on there these days) and go do something else.

In my younger days, I had a real problem. My most memorable (read: stupid) moment was picked up my Commodore Amiga (one meaty piece of equipment) and throwing the entire thing through the window. It still worked by the way. Countless SNES pads were trashed, one system, and a lot of carts ended up damaged.
These days I've calmed a little, although both Xbox pads still have cracks around the casing from being thrown, and the DC Arcade stick is a little beat up (although that's the stick's fault, not me, floppy inaccurate piece of shit
), the main problem is the swearing. If I could chain like I can swear, I'd be in the worlds best at Iky.
My GF finds it amusing in a 'sad little boy' kind of way, but she gets all moody and annoyed when it's her that's sucking

The first few times I'm like this, then after the 5th or 6th restart, that first level starts to really piss you off - little graphical touches that used to be cute, now become your main critisisms of the gameGanelon wrote:Am I the only one who feels a bit annoyed and just starts over again without doing something to express my profound anger?
This just gets you more worked up until every death has a torrent of swearing, toys thrown from pram etc... to go with it
All of them, with the occasional "omg i'm going to do push-ups/bench-press/run a few kilometres" to calm down.
Seriously!
Seriously!

Usually my first run-through is the best, and I do well enough that when I die, I'm already proud of my accomplishment.
It's the subsequent deaths that piss me off more and more with each one, and my whiney "Goddammit's" become increasingly violent to the point when I turn off the console and insert the next shmup. Rinse, repeat.

Scary. Now I can understand why so many people seem to lump stress and gaming together in the other thread (how do you train...).
Honestly, I do not feel a single change in emotion whether dying, living, 1cc'ing, power failure, &c.

Vexorg: Where do you play online, and what type of games? I used to do that too, but my wife finally said she had enough.
The only time I broke a controller and didn't mean it was my old US Saturn back in college. I had died or something in some game, and was more put out/bored than anyhting. I tossed the controller out of the way... pretty lightly, but I hit it square on the coffee table and it broke. Did more damage than all the times I've thrown them (very hard) at the floor or something.
