Heads up T... err... Chicago: Akira

Post by GaijinPunch »

Well, this feels a little bizarre, but I guess I should get the word out.

Music Box is playing a subtitled version of Akira this Friday & Saturday at Midnight. I can't imagine it being in their smaller theater, but who knows.

Great movie. Was thinking about Oshii films just the other day actually, shame there are so few great anime directors left now, especially after losing Satoshi Kon.

Love P2, although the first is still one of my all time favourite anime/detective movies.

Pretty much my favourite anime film - sublime cinematography, soundtrack and art.

WXIII wasn't by Oshii was it? I loved it though, at the time it rekindled my hope in good sci-fi anime.

Afterwards I went back to my disappointment.

When is he going to make another Ghost in the Shell anyway? Not a big fan of the first one, but Innocence is perfection.

Patlabor 2 the Movie, as in 1993 Patlabor 2? I always have to check, never know when remakes are all the rage these days.

Cool! P2 is great movie, although I personally feel the 1st movie is more true to the feel of Patlabor.
Shame Oshii decided not to be funny anymore :o

I agree, but taken on their own some of the ambient music and beautiful scenery type scenes in Patlabor II are just mesmerising :)

Actually, no. I got two tickets and my partner in crime I told should probably avoid it. She saw Redline with me but understood dick, of course (we were drunk, too). I'm going to give this one a whirl though and see how far I can get. ;)
Patlabor 2 the Movie, as in 1993 Patlabor 2?
Yep. Two movies which are being "voted on" right now are Akira and Char's Counterattack... both of which I'd go and see.

I read that -- isn't it just a re-issue of the old OVA series? Weren't they done professionally ages ago?

Ballz! I tried registering for a ticket but it doesn't like my email address. I'm going to keep trying. It's crazy, I was just reading a reprint of this manga in a 7-11 yesterday

Yeah, it's a re-release of the original OVA. They've been out of print in the states for awhile now.

Well, I have an extra single ticket if you want to be my date. If you need more, go to your profile page and check your name and shit. Mine has the illustrious hyphen in it, which the katakana portion won't take. This is all invisible on the ordering page. :|

Really? That would be great, as long as I don't have to swallow  . Seriously though, let me know if you end up needing that extra ticket as I finally figured out how to register. It looks like I can pay and get it charged to my cell phone bill but I'd rather just buy it from you with cash.

Yeah, I got two. Don't really know anyone else that would want to go, so if you want it, it's yours. Just note that I'm addicted to movie popcorn. Trying to get in shape though. Bad combo.

Yep, done. They just sent me an email, which I've printed out. Pretty sure we just walk up there and I get the tickets. Hope so, anyway. I will be going on bicycle, so we can just meet in the area. It's a nice theater.

Updating my post as well. So far they've released the original OVA, The Early Years, as well as the first part of the TV series with plans to release it in its entirety. DVDs look nice, so I imagine the BD is even nicer.

Mother fucking business trip!
Honestly, I could go see it Saturday, and leave Sunday and make it in time for my trip. However, my kid will be in the states and I don't really get to see him whenever I want these days. The kid trumps Miyazaki i'm afraid... even if his mother is nearby.
