I have the OAVs and the soundtrack, which is pretty rockin' - and damn cheep at The Right Stuf's bargain bin (it was, like, 5 bucks!). I couldn't get Ariel, but this was the next best thing.

Yeah, I've got that two part OVA as well, which I figured was all that existed. Then I saw that there was a 35 episode series(!) that had been fansubbed.

Hellyeah, Imma gonna have to get my meathooks on that action. The OAVs are late 80s goodness. It looks as if Kikuchi Michitaka may have been involved in either the OAVs, the series, or the OAV sequels (he's the same dude who did the Silent Moebius anime stuff for Asamiya Kia)

So far, I've downloaded a few one-off OAVs I can't get anywhere (B.B. Fish, Nineteen, and a few others).

I watched Zillion recently. It's got Opa Opa. How can it be bad? The game on the SMS is pretty fun too!

I thought Orange Road was awful. Well, i was well out of it's target age group when I decided to watch it. I did watch the whole thing though, b/c I'm such a dork.

If you want dramedy, Maison Ikkoku has always been a favorite of mine, and I'm still re-watching through it now (slowly). There are a few plot devices that are absolutely ridiculous, and there's enough cliche to cry foul, but for the most part, it's actually a good story, and while predictable, the jokes can be entertaining. I would say more than most others, having a good grasp (not just a little knowledge) of Japanese language and especially culture both help a lot here. The seasons/weather are almost an extra character, and the events surrounding the seasons are a staple of Japanese life... both urban and rural. I probably watched every episode 4-5 times when I timed them laser discs some (fuck me in the goat ass!) 20 years ago, but I'm picking up on things now I missed then.

I saw a dubbed version of Plawres Sanshirou some 10-12 years ago as a young boy. Can’t remember much of it sorry, should probably give it another viewing hey. I recall it being a pretty neat Mecha/ wrestling shounen and I think I very much liked it at the time (to be fair I thought everything I watched was amazing as a kid). Pretty popular show in Europe, more so than in Japan I hear and was dubbed in many languages.
Actually the one thing that stands out in my mind funnily enough was the Uresei Yatsura cameo in one of the episodes lol.

Not sure if Plawres Sanshirou and Dirty Pair/ Joe share any staff but I do know the main Character Designer of Plawres also went on (or perhaps before, I’m not entirely sure) to do the early 80’s OVA Birth, if you've seen that one?

Only seen the first 28 eps of Ashita no Joe unfortunately The fansubbers group hadn’t finished the rest by the time I completed ep 28 and I just never got round to seeing if they finished them. Seen and loved the two Movies though….. dat final scene

cool yeh Plawres is massive in Greece I think, actually from looking at a list on the Old School Anime Club group in MAL, Greece seems to have had an amazing childhood anime wise in the 80s :p

Yeah Ashita No Joe is up to episode 45 now , I kinda like to watch series or OVAs before films, so I'm going to go through this first, even though I know it will annoy me to not get to the finish haha

Yeah I think in Plawres the kid applies traditional martial arts stuff to his little robot wrestler guy that he learns off his dad I think, I think the kid kinda lives in a dojo. That sounds awesome and also my kids will love it (and I like them watching programs which promote oriental martial arts). Theyre used to watching subs now anyway, they cant read them but they still like watching them.

finished the 10 extant scanlated volumes of Char's Deleted Affair manga, apart from all the sexual fanservice, really really liked it, Gato making a cameo was cool as fuck.

Finished all 12 episodes of Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu and it warn't half bad. I really is the over-the-top slapstick comedy a la Project A-Ko I pinned it as. The last episode was the best and funniest. I might give a few more viewings after I am done watching Blue Seed again

The original manga is by Rumiko Takahashi. I don't think her stuff was typical of the eighties.
Kimagure Orange Road, where scoliosis meets moustache, is an example of things that were awkward in that decade.

Just finished watching the entirety of the original Gundam.
Very enjoyable. I didn't like how easy it became to guess who was going to die in an episode though, but hey.

last episode had me thinking everyone left on White Base was a newtype in some way or form, aaaaa
and unlike most of the others, Ryu's death was actually surprising

Gonna go finish watching Mobile Fighter G Gundam, I can't remember why I stopped, I was enjoying the fuck out of it. So damn over the top.

Watching episode 4 of Ashita No Joe, I know I keep banging on about it, but seriously I can't laud it enough, intriguing characters, amazing animation (pretty much every punch makes you wince a little), and one of the most manly of manly OPs ever :p

Watched the first episode of the Dirty Pair TV series and I think it may be even better than the OVA series. The backgrounds in particular are incredible, and I think everyone already knows how perfect the theme tune is. My girlfriend loves it too. At first I thought it kind of odd that a pair of feminists would so enjoy a program about girls in their underwear blowing stuff up. I think its appeal comes down to the fact that the protagonists are at once ridiculously girly and completely devoid of any morals that may impede their violence. They just really don't give a fuck.

Without the girly girl and tom-boy character clash dynamic, Dirty Pair wouldn't be anywhere near as good as it was. The contrast between the two was the catalyst for much of the hilarious verbal back and forths seen in the shows. Many of the best moments of Dirty Pair came from Kei and Yuri getting totally caught up in their bickering, which often resulted in copious amounts of chaos and destruction around them. The two usually completely oblivious until the damage had been done.

it is really incredible, and also if you think about it not only do they win (well in a way) whatever mission there in, but they also heckle the shit out of it with their bosses etc., who are always shown as cowering, kinda stupid men.

im on episode 28 of Versailles and while I don't want to spoil it for someone - I'll say only this - he didn't know? o_O - still amazing even with that MASSIVE plot contrivance :p

Watched the Crusher Joe movie last night. Awesome stuff that generally benefits from a longer running time (though maybe it was a little too long). Lots of cool characters and very good fun.

I particularly enjoyed the fact that the blonde crusher started off as some demure (literal) princess before getting pissed and lairy. It's a simple thing, but given that it wasn't made TOO TOO long after Yamato and the annoyingly demure and 2D Yuki, it was cool to see a female character with some nuance to her.

Probably not, but this was definitely the most typical of her major series.... and arguably the best, but I know all of them have their fan base. I read the manga in the 90's , after having seen the TV show. There are apparently differences in the two but my Japanese wasn't good enough to pick them up. I am failure.
