not sure on the status of the poll, but personally, I'd like to see spaceship/dragon instead.

Not that the polls are working, but I've added that option too.not sure on the status of the poll, but personally, I'd like to see spaceship/dragon instead.

Now I think I've decided; "Swedish Air Force" - a rip off of UN Squadron with swedes. Yep, I can see it clearly now.

One of the issues with a faction that's based in a singular country is that in writing the shmup, geography will play a larger role and require that the audience is familiar with it or is informed of it. That might make for some cool mission briefing cutscenes, however.

Yes, you're right!Zaximillian wrote:One of the issues with a faction that's based in a singular country is that in writing the shmup, geography will play a larger role and require that the audience is familiar with it or is informed of it. An russian invasion of Stockholm, from the sea. This is going to rock!
EDIT:
The map, it got it all!

Thinking...
Single map, coordinate based objectives, one sprite set for intact buildings, another for partially destroyed, and a third for craters... It might be like an overhead version of Missile Command. Or perhaps constantly running between one objective to the next to be the pivotal force behind saving various parts of Stockholm alongside allied forces against the incursion. A different dynamic than "fly to the right, shoot stuff".

Like UN Squadron but with several targets then? A good idea actually.Zaximillian wrote:Thinking...

Might start a dev-thread when I get something up and running, need suggestions for a couple of questions marks along the way.

I was thinking maybe Thunder Force II overhead style. You may need more maps for Stockholm if that's the case though, and then a few visual effects to change day/night to keep things looking different and not too samey.

Actual playing on the map? Nah, it should just be for tactical and overview purposes, I think. Don't want to stray too far from UN Squadron.BPzeBanshee wrote:I was thinking maybe Thunder Force II overhead style. Well, the map can be pixelized, redsigned for several hundred years in the future, and then zoomed into to start a stage. That would be a fine Stage Start transition now that I think of it, and give a sense of mission and scenario that most shmups do not have.

The whole game is going to be pixelated, so that map isn't going to be used at all, only the outlines of it.Zaximillian wrote:Well, the map can be pixelized, redsigned for several hundred years in the future, and then zoomed into to start a stage. But a zoom-in would be cool anyway.
This is turning more and more into Birth Order, which wasn't what I was aiming for...
