STG Weekly #5: Eschatos
STG Weekly #5: Eschatos
Week 5's episode will be tomorrow (Sunday) beginning somewhere between 1:30-2:30pm. CST. I imagine we'll start around 2:00pm AKA 1400 hours. This episode, Ratikal and I (both top 10 placers in Original mode) will discuss the scoring and excitement of this wonderful game.

Maybe if there were a recording of it... but still, that will scare people!Zaarock wrote:You guys better be showing the original hardest 1cc replay
Edit: Oh, it's on Youtube. Okay, we'll probably take a peek, then.

Episode is up! Thank you Acid Rain and blackoak for your help on making this episode a little extra special. The video chops during the beginning of Ratikal's play but it clears up after stage 1. I'm fairly proud of this episode. Enjoy!

Good stuff! Looking forward to watching once I get off work here.
Re: STG Weekly #5: Eschatos
Yeah, this episode was great all around. Glad I could help out! Having ratikal there to comment on certain sections was really informative... hope you can get more of the actual players on. Got me excited to play Eschatos again.
Re: STG Weekly #5: Eschatos
Indeed. I really liked this episode. This and the Futari one have been my favourites so far, mainly because both had someone who really knew a lot about the game commentating.blackoak wrote:Having ratikal there to comment on certain sections was really informative... hope you can get more of the actual players on.

What is this video rated? It drops a lot of F-bombs.

I just watched the entire video. I've been enjoying Eschatos. It just keeps creeping back into the 360. Really nice change of pace from all the Cave shmups. Been playing a lot of Judgement Silversword also.

@aquas: Thanks for picking up my design and implementing it so fast.
@all: I really enjoyed this weeks show. Good mixture of in-depth comments and fun (oh the trolls).

Watched this last night (just barely missed the stream window) and thought it was great. Between the higher-level commentary on some sections and the sheer ridiculousness of the trolls, it struck a good balance between informative and entertaining.
I don't yet own Eschatos; after seeing this I realize just what a serious crime that is.
Keep up the awesome work guys!

Q: Is there any benefit to picking up the blue F-bombs in Advanced mode? Also, I probably want to steer clear of the gold ones for the most part too, right?

Re: STG Weekly #5: Eschatos
Yes. It increases your chain by x1. M-KAI claims grabbing f-bombs increases rank, but I don't notice it. The yellow ones decrease your power level I think? There are a few areas where being at a slightly lower power level is beneficial with a bit more shield gauge. But for the most part you can get by fully powered.Special World wrote:Q: Is there any benefit to picking up the blue F-bombs in Advanced mode? If you didn't notice. I setup Play-Asia affiliate links. If you are gonna pick up Eschatos please use the link in the youtube description. It just occurred to me to use them for games that are available such as Futari and Eschatos / Ginga Force.Softdrink 117 wrote: I don't yet own Eschatos; after seeing this I realize just what a serious crime that is.

Re: STG Weekly #5: Eschatos
What!? I could have sworn that both types of F-Bomb reduced your chain. Will investigate. I read M-Kai say that players who collect them will notice "a change in difficulty" or something like that, but maybe it was just a communication error and he really meant it'll cancel a pattern and your life will be easier :X

Re: STG Weekly #5: Eschatos
Oh wait, it's the Shot Power-up item that raises the multiplier. Yeah, my bad. The f-bomb should reduce it by x1. Guess advanced mode is kind of hazy to me despite clearing it >_>Special World wrote:What!? I could have sworn that both types of F-Bomb reduced your chain. Will investigate. Re: STG Weekly #5: Eschatos
Yeah, no worries. I just still find it weird as hell to think they're there so you DON'T collect them. It bothers me.
I'm also wondering if there's anything to be gained from gem-grinding enemies. Seems like you can do it and it'll prolong your shield, but not enough to be useful for anything. Maybe I'm crazy though.

Re: STG Weekly #5: Eschatos
Basically, Advanced mode is lame. Speed-killing and total devastation > avoiding items and milking boss lasers. Original4lyfe.
