Daioujou or Mushihimesama, my dilema!
When I play a game I like to give it my best shot. I can't always do them but I always try to train on one game in particular. With Ikaruga a got to the last boss after about 40 hours of practice. I didn't beat it, I had 8 seconds left. But I had done enough and I moved on.
The thing is I work and look after two kids so that 40 hours was made up over about 9 months! That's 9 months of concentrating solely on one game, only paying lip service to others.
I moved from Ikky to Daioujou, which I really love. However I can't play anything else whilst playing it. I have managed to work out strategies for level 3 and about half of level four. So I'm making reasonable progress. The trouble is that Daioujou, as much as I love it, requires absolute precision to build up chains. I find myself dying time after time simply to try and get a hyper option to help me out. It just gets frustrating. Without the chains it's hard to progress, once you try to chain you have to be so fucking precise that it drives you mad. I love the game though. My problem is that this is going to take me far longer than Ikky to complete.
I bought Mushi when it was released and gave it a quick go a few times; just to pay lip service to it because I was playing Daioujou seriously. I can't play two games at ones, trying to memeorize two just doesn't work. Anyway, I played Mushi a few times last week and I really like it. It is as hard as Daioujou (I'm playing on ultra, or should I say trying to) but doesn't ned the absolute precision of chaining. Obviously you can chain, but it doesn't matter if you don't. I've managed to get a strategy for Level 1, which I can't do yet, but the framework is there.
So I'm stuck in a quandry. Should I leave Mushi 'till another day and finish my DOJ assault, which will take me another year at least. Or should I go with Mushi which I actually enjoy playing more, because it is a less strict game.
Trouble is if a pick Mushi I know I will never go back to DOJ and I will regret it forever probably. Once I complete either Mushi or DOJ I intend to give the vertical world a rest and move to a hori shooter, well two of them in fact, Gradius V and Pulstar.
What would you do if you were me? Have you ever been in a similar situation? Desperately wanting to move on but equally as desperately wanting to finish the game you are playing?
Cheers

I voted Mushihimesamma too. It's the game you enjoy more, and that's what games are really about : your enjoyment. There are the different play modes in Mushihimesamma, so you have all the various different bullet patterns to mess around with, which is a bonus.
I like Dai-Ou-Jou too, but there's something cold about it that prevents me from loving it, like I do with all the other Cave games. To 1cc DOJ would be an incredible achievement though (especially with a good score and perfect chains), and it would be the perfect ending to your vert shooter phase (no matter how temperary it is).
I have to admire your dedication to the one game though. I just can't do it. This is probably why my scores are crap.

Ikaruga review now up in PLASMA BLOSSOM
Even though DOJ is my favorite game of all time, I think you should choose mushihimesama. You have three levels of difficulty to choose from, you only have to complete 1 loop to finish the game, and the game also feels more relaxed. Given your time constraints, try mushihimesama. I think you will have more fun.

Yeah I was gonna say exactly the same thing. ESPGaluda's difficulty is more accessible than Mushi and DOJ, and the game is damn fun too, probably the most fun out of the three.Zweihander wrote:EspGaluda all the way.
Just a suggestion. Have you tried playing DOJ for just survival as well as score? Maybe you might find the game more enjoyable this way.

Anywayz, I love DOJ's difficulty, it gives me an adrenaline rush and "I find that fun in itself." In your case though I'd probably say just go with Mushi, cos there's really no point playing a game you don't enjoy, or get much fun from.

To stay on-topic:
If you insist on picking between DOJ and Mushi (even though Galuda is 10x more fun than either, IMHO), i'd say Mushi. For me, Arrange Mode was the EASIEST near-1CC experience in a Cave shooter EVER. Got to the true final boss, AND took a chunk of life out of him before promptly getting assraped.

now, is that two years of playing it an hour or two a day, or two years of sitting there with an IV-needle feeding tube and a piss jar at your disposal?Plasmo wrote:Finish the job even if it will take you 2 years -> DOJ

Currently running at 17 votes to 14 in favour of Mushi.
I never even considered EspGaluda because I don't already own it. I can't justify buying another Cave shmup, no matter how good, without at least having a proper assault on the first two.
I favoured Mushi, but Plasmo's post stuck in my mind.
Finish the Job..
Good point, maybe playing Mushi is just taking the easy way out of DOJ, chickening out if you will, developing a yellow streak, feeling the Cave induced fear, turning tail and running, my ample belly is yellow, I am not a number - I am a free mouse, Brave Brave Brave Brave Sir Robin!!
My mind is made up, DOJ it is.
Thanks everyone.
Cheers
