Senko No Ronde OST CD get!

Post by Kiken »

My copy of the SNR OST CD arrived today.

First off, the packaging... completely clear case, no back-piece, almost clear CD (you can damn-near see straight through it, very translucent), and a thick, almost card-stock colour manual (which could easily double as a game manual, seeing at it has a page devoted to each character).

Chances are most of you have had a chance to hear bits and pieces of the soundtrack in replays or visiting arcades... however, just as with so many other soundtracks, very subtle nuances can now be heard as there is no din of combat.

Listening to the CD, you can hear that G-Rev have certainly managed to establish a "sound" for themselves, as many of tracks have underlying portions or general melodies lifted from Border Down.

After I've had a chance to listen to it more, I'll post some more thorough views of the soundtrack.

Isn't Yack responsible for basically the whole soundtrack?

According to the manual, yes. You are correct. I guess he is the sound of G-Rev. ;)

Just got mine this morning, been listening to it on my iPod all day. Really good stuff, sounds like the tracks that were on the Image Tracks disc have been redone slightly. Lovely ambient tracks, some pretty weird sounding stuff (like the one where you can hear some of the younger character's voices... "squeaking"... in the background), and some very Border Down-ish tracks as well.

And for those of you listening to the CD right now, there's a track that samples the Arranged version of the boss music from Dodonpachi Daioujou. See if you can find it ^_-

Well, I could root through your stuff, I suppose, but I'd rather not

Must... resist... buying... until... I play the game... somehow...

Yeah, it does sound good based on the sample gameplay videos they have for it.

I think that Yack has become one of my favourite artists ever, if not the most loved.

It can be safely said that his style has evolved into some pretty unique and original, and he's at home with any musical genre, albeit he seems to like more fusion and ambient/trance styles. It's nice to make a quick comparison between his early efforts (like Metal Black) and the latest productions and appreciate at the same time the inner cohesion of its style and its evolution (eh, ok, a bit convoluted, but i hope youget the idea).

In this sense, most of the current elements he is using now, i think, can be found already in his '90s works: "Metal Black - the first " probably being the first work in which he really experimented new ideas, which can be seen as "external" to the Zuntata approach. Well, it's also true that, by the early '90s, all Zuntata members had their distinct style...

I wonder if he has worked on Under Defeat as well, i'd add.
"The only desire the Culture could not satisfy from within itself was one common to both the descendants of its original human stock and the machines [...]: the urge not to feel useless."

Wise words Rando. I've only listened to the Image Soundtrack, but it's very interesting and very good stuff indeed. A journey through 90's club music with a fresh twist, including 909 drums, low frequency basslines and sampled choirs, plus some amazing harmonies of those that are typical of Yack. Very neat. :D

i picked up this ost just a couple of days ago. brilliant stuff - yack is truly first class.

thinking about it - this is the first decent game soundtrack since Mushi PS2 (I hadn't heard it since the launch of PS2 version) - by that count that means we get around 4 decent game osts this year??
scary shit...
