Post by grumly54 »

Hi guys,
I would like to have advices for my BVM-2010P.
I tested it yesterday and I had troubles.
So a pic when I started it with test grid :

And a pic with my Dreamcast on 240p :

Closer (render is very sharp) :

So I set the H Width and V Height, no problems. But when I set the H Spin to correct alignment, something explose behind the BVM with little smoke. The image display changed a few and flickering and the left
What should I do ??? is it just a capacitor to change or something else ???

Others Pics :

Could be a CAP, IC or transistor.

You'll need to have the chassis inspected unfortunately.

I'm not an electronic expert
So I'll open the BVM and looked inside.

Is it easy to find if a CAP or Transistor is out ???

Transistor can be easy, depending on it's type and if you know what the EBC's are. CAPs need a specific test device.

If you don't know much about electronics I wouldn't bother looking imo.

An exploded cap should be very easy to spot though. Caps are usually rather easy to replace, but you need to know your way around a soldering iron. Of course messing around on the inside of a CRT is dangerous, so maybe it would be better to leave the repairs to someone who knows that they are doing.

Yes you're right about a CAP that has physically blown, but unfortunately not all failures of CAPs can be found via this method.

OP mentioned an explosion and sound. I am thinking whatever failed is going to be easy to detect with the naked eye.

I found 2 cards in the manual which are about my changed settings and located in area where I had see the smoke.
Well I'll inspect these cards
