Oddly enough, I actually like Smokey and the Bandit quite a bit. And Burt Reynolds in general. Probably because I live in redneck world, USA.CMoon wrote:drauch wrote: Cannoball Run - So atrocious. One of those undefendable movies like Smokey and the Bandit. Liking it is like having some embarrassing disease you don't talk about in public. I won't try to spread it to any of you.

Cannonball Run and it's sequel are fun in that they don't take themselves seriously...not to mention Adrienne's rack prominently featured in one memorable scene with the CHP officer pulling her over for exceeding the speed limit during the race. Plus the out-takes and bloopers at the ending credits of both films are always good for a chuckle.

btw I would recommend the film of which I spoke, a good combination of traditional kung-fu and humour:

Fond memories of Cannonball Run. Oh, the 80's.
Burt is a weird one for me. I'm sure in real life he's likely a douche, but after seeing Boogie Nights when it came out, and Deliverance recently, he's hard to hate. And, the mustache!

Creature (1985) - 5/10
Very poor film quality, very poor audio quality, the monster is made of rubber and someone saves the day having missed half the film and arriving late because they got lost. It had a few interesting ideas though, like mind controlling parasites.

It was good if you needed to hide a porn in the middle of two normal movies.

After all my wanky hipster viewing on Saturday, I gave my Sunday over to Brewster's Millions (brilliantly manic - like The Goonies (in terms of energy) meets Trading Places), and Meryl Streep being incredible in The Iron Lady. Then bloody Mrs spadgy got into Wedding Date, and my day was ruined by seeing just a few frames.

Looper and Insidious. One's average and fairly boring, the other is a future camp classic. You'll never guess which is which!

Re: Movies you've just watched
Over the weekend I did this thing with my friends where we take random movies from RedBox and watch them and laugh at them if they were terrible.
This time we picked out Apparition and The Cabin in the Woods. Apparition turned out to be the standard terrible modern horror movie about a ghost that just randomly fucks shit up. All I can say is that it was fun to laugh at how terrible it was.
On the other hand, The Cabin in the Woods turned out to be way better than I thought it would be. I ended up absolutely loving this movie! It ended up being a giant awesome parody of modern horror movies done in a very unique and entertaining way. This movie just keeps surprising you left and right after the first half, and I never saw the ending coming. While this horror movie wasn't really scary, it is definitely worth a watch. (Although horror movies never really scare me so I'm not the best indicator of scare factor.)

Point Break - sooo good. Hadn't watched it in YEARS.....and never realized it was directed by the same chick that did the Hurt Locker
Is it wrong that I like Keannu Reeve's in almost everything he does, barring rom com bullshits. especially his earlier stuff. Hell, I even liked Constantine
Badass - Didn't expect much from this, but it was actually surprisingly good. Danny Trejo is actually a fairly well spoken dude, never seen him talk so much in a film before.
Blitz - Jason Statham flick. Actually pretty good, and did kind of stray from his normal formula, sort of.
Bourne Legacy - pretty shit, other than the action and odd fight sequences. The ending was retarded.
Finally setup some VPN action and enjoying the fuck out of US Netflix!

haha yeh it ain't exactly rocket science, definitely enjoyable though - I liked the hurling speech at the start and the lulz of Statham saying 'sláinte'jonny5 wrote: Blitz - Jason Statham flick. Actually pretty good, and did kind of stray from his normal formula, sort of.

Re: Movies you've just watched
What ending? The film just sort of stops trying, but there isn't really anything I'd call an ending. Probably enjoy the bit in the arctic at the beginning the most. Nice atmosphere there. Also the chase. Very shit otherwise.jonny5 wrote:Bourne Legacy - pretty shit, other than the action and odd fight sequences. The ending was retarded.

She also directed the new "Zero Dark Thirty" flick (about the hunt for Bin Laden with Navy Seal Team 6) that's playing as a limited engagement right now across the pond, stateside. Eventually, it'll be distributed nationwide later on. I wouldn't be surprised if it's nominated as Oscar Academy Award material in being such a last minute contender so late in the Hollywood movie distribution schedule line-up.Skykid wrote:Fuckin A, Point Break rules. Battle of Britain - Awesome. Messerschmitt, Hurricanes and Spitfires are all there. Seriously, 3/4 of the film is aerial combat. One thing I enjoyed most about the film is the portrayal of the German pilots; they're depicted as being no more or less evil than the English pilots. No bullshit stereotypes.

Re: Movies you've just watched
Finally checked out Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained properly on the silver screen today. It's quite a talky film like it's predecessor of Inglorious Basterds (which had some action scenes in it but not as much). Well, the second half of DU certainly makes up for IB's lack of action scenes with some all-out shoot-out scenes Tarantino-style (bloodly splattering effects galore & made more dramatic when viewed in slow-motion for added maximum flair/punch). I certainly got my bargain matinee $5.00's worth out of watching this 2 hours & 45 minutes in duration flick. After watching the ending credits, stay tuned for a bit more of a movie scene as a bonus -- it ain't over yet, folks. With principle shooting done on location in both California & Wyoming as background scenery, it fills in nicely for the developing story that takes place in Ole Mississippi.
Even Tarantino has a small part in it as well. Zoe Bell (whom was featured in Tarantino's earlier film of Death Proof) has a small part as an extra but has no spoken dialogue (you'll recognize her by her steely blue eyes + with a red bandana around her face to conceal her identity).
Tarantino delivers the goods this outing. There's even one memorable that pays tribute to DeNiro's character in Taxi Driver...be sure to watch for it.
Can't wait for the upcoming & highly anticipated third sequel of Kill Bill Vol. 3 with the further adventures of Beatrice and Co. Considering that Bill is dead towards the conclusion in Kill Bill Vol. 2, will Beatrice & the now all-blind Elle have a final showdown to the death? And what of the Sofia character with just one arm left...will she get her revenge against Beatrice? Still plently of unresolved plots & loose ends to tie up with the previous two Kill Bill films indeed.

Re: Movies you've just watched
shit, there was a scene after the credits? Damn, I knew I should have stayed the whole way, but my friend, who was my ride for the night, didn't like the movie and didn't want to stay any longer, hah.
It was a good movie, but it should have been 45 minutes shorter. I really liked it, but some scenes felt superfluous. Foxx's performance was fantastic though.
As for Zoe Bell - yeah, I don't really know why she was in the movie, since her cameo didn't do anything.
I guess that makes her like every other Tarantino cameo ever.
