More Garegga. Finally saw Black Heart for the first time with no lives in reserve, died to the sweeping vulcan.

Surprisingly, that spiral pattern isn't nearly as bad as it looks.

I have discovered a new drug. It is called Ibara. 8)

Played IBKL for a solid hour at Gamecenter in San Mateo. I'd never played any version of the game before; it was totally awesome.

By the second-to-last run I managed to get to the stage 3 boss on one credit. Those stage 3 trains are F****** RIDICULOUS when rank is maxed.

Under Defeat HD (xbox360)

hmm… and I think I should stick with one game for a longer time. Should probably play some more Futari Black Label.

This morning played and beat (1cced on Normal) Gradius: the Interstellar Assault (aka Nemesis II: Return of the Hero) for Gameboy. Tomorrow I want to see if I can beat it on Hard, or do two full loops.

Been also doing the Gradius PSP Collection. So yeah, my mind is all Gradius lately.

Played Jamestown for a couple hours tonight. Nice game! Grinded the challenges too, they made me pretty stubbron--some of 'em.

Also Dragon Saber, Guwange, and Ether Vapor. If I'm especially adamant I may try to 1cc these before 2012 is over. :)

Getting close to a first-loop 1CC on Under Defeat. A quick question, though: is there a trick to dodging the spread shots from the st5 miniboss' options, or do I just have to stay on my toes? I can do the rest of the level fairly easily at this point, but I'm still just hoping for the best when I come to that plane. :P

From what I recall, staying in line with the dead center of the midboss makes the shots pass right by you.

Though I often end up panic-bombing at that point.

Are you talking about the huge helicopter over the river?
I can't remember where but someone here gave the hint about when or not to tap-dodge the spread.

Cheers, folks! Yeah, the centre seems like a relatively safe area. I've just watched one of alamone's vids and noticed he didn't seem to have to dodge when he was in line with any of the engines, so maybe that's it...

Played Bullet Soul, reached stage 5 whit my first credit. Didn't liked it.
Then played Pinksweets 1.00 (like a real man) on 360 and confirmed it, it's way easier than the emulation. Reached the stage 5 Boss using that fucking 360 controller.

I played through Carrier Air Wing. It was a welcome change of pace to play a hori with a modern air war theme, and the stages were more interesting than the arcade UN Squadron. However, the game was ultimately a bit lacking. There's not much that differentiates the three fighters or shot types (aside from the red shot being total crap). Limited ammo discourages weapon use, though they do little to change your capabilities anyway. The combination of a constantly decreasing life meter and pre-placed life refills make large sections of the game freebees; it doesn't matter if you've dodged everything or taken a few hits as long as your reach the next refill.

I've been playing only Ketsui for the last week or so. It's gotten to the point where on a good credit I can regularly get to stage 1-5. Made it all the way to the boss several times, to the last pattern once-- BUT NO 1CC.

Are you talking about the mini-boss fight over the river? That enemy/mini-boss has five different destructible parts, two on each wing and the center gun. You just have to destroy the two parts on any of the wings (left or right).

If you destroy the mini-boss quickly the game will trigger additional enemies (helicopters) once you pass over the bridge. They come in a predictable pattern though.

As for the options, if it is green you are supposed to stay still. If it is red, you are supposed to move left or right by a very small amount. So suppose the option is red. As soon as it is about to self-destruct (or you destroy it yourself) you just move a little. For the green option, just stay still. In any case, you still have to be careful about the gun fire from the center part.

Same here. How is it possible to enter stage4 with four lives and three bombs......and still not clear the game?

Trying so hard to finally beat DonPachi. First 3 stages are a cakewalk but stage 4 is a wall for me. I can beat it with 1 live lost but that doesn't cut it because my strategy is to just bomb the entire fifth stage. Guess I'll have to get some more practice but the clear is probably happening within the next 2 weeks.

Trigon, attempting to challenge the WR score listed but I still need to figure out where a few thousand points I'm missing out on are hiding.

Blue Wish Resurrection + and Eden's Aegis.

Holy Fuck, did I just 1cc BWR+ on original????

I never knew how much this game rocks. Yes, it is very easy, but wow, it get's my blood pumping.

Shall I dare challenging hell mode?

And I also do like the vibe of Eden's Aegis very much. I think I shall tackle this 1cc on original before I go to hell in BWR+. :P

I haven't played Souky for weeks, so I'm out of practice getting stupid deaths all over the place in stage 3. The farthest I've gotten is the stage 5 boss; I think if I can reliably get the second extend (6mil) -and keep it too-, I can probably make it to the last level. My highest-scoring run puts me at around 8.3 million, thus far. I feel I can reliably get one of the top spots on the leaderboard if I manage to 1CC.

Of course, that 40million WR boggles my mind. Unless Souky has a second loop I don't know about.

I can't stop playing Dodonpachi Ressurection iOS. Once this is done, I'm getting off this iPhone and back onto stick controlled shmups!

Still playing Strikers 1999 down the arcade, at least.

I just can't seem to get the Ura route in DFK Novice. Omote's requirements of grabbing all the bees are easy, but I get to Stage 5 and end up getting hit multiple times. Shooty's giant balls of fire also make things difficult if you don't have a Hyper stocked. I feel kind of embarrassed that I just can't manage it yet.

I haven't managed it yet either (and feel similarly embarassed about it, but I haven't touched the game in well over a year either) and the closest I came was a heartbreaking all bees + 0M3B, with 2 autobombs coming from those stupid sabots of Shooty's. I'm fine with dodging the bullets but for whatever reason I always run into the casings, it's like my brain can't even process them.

You shouldn't need Power for anything in the boss fight. You can fully charge easily just by auraing the boss. Also the fireballs in the second phase are really easy to avoid by just moving to the left. An example strat with C-S.

I guess part of the problem is I haven't seriously studied any replays, I figured "it's Novice, pfft, how hard can not getting hit be?". But it's not a totally trivial Novice (compared to Futari Novice's really slow bullet speeds) I guess, so I should probably suck it up and not be so determined to do it without looking up other replays... That, and it seems stage 5 really, really needs a good route memorized to make it through the laser wheels while dealing with all the bullets fired by the popcorn.

Is that first set of fireballs actually static? Can't believe I missed the gap at the left. Clever recharge at the very start of the fight too, thanks for that.
