Hi all! I've been a really long time luker (like, 2 years), and though I created an account a long time ago I never really used it. So here I am! I've been into shmups for the past 3 years, they're definitely my lifeblood!
Currently playing:
Batsugun (just posted my 1CC high score)
Progear
Dangun Feveron
Mushihimesama Futari (360, trying to 1CC it)
Want to get:
Muchi Muchi Pork & Pink Sweets when it re-releases on 360
Akai Katana
Dodonpachi Resurrection
Looking forward to getting to know you all!

Re: The Self-Introduction Thread
Heyy,
Been around shooters forever starting with Donpachi for Playstation and later ending with Ibara on PS2. I was never a huge fan of the genre, but loved the bullet hell that Cave brings. I'm finally jumping in and picking up an X360 for the Holidays and wanted to catch up on all the shooters I've missed over the years. When I saw Deathsmiles release years ago, I was shocked that the United States got a game like that. Anyways, I have done a small bit of research and found that some games are in fact region free that I could pick up. I haven't found a database, but was hoping somebody could point me in a good direction on what games I can and can not pick up and play for a NTSC-U X360. Thanks!

Re: The Self-Introduction Thread
Hi everyone, I'm relieved to have found this website and forum cause I often feel like I'm the only Shmup fan there is.. such an underated genre.
By being here I feel like I'm no longer alone
There's not much to say is there? I'm just some addicted gamer who started gaming at the age of 2 and kept on since, as I grew up I developped an addiction for Shmup games after seeing Mushihimesama's true final boss in action...
Completly changed my whole damn life
My favorite shmups are DeathSmiles (2X ) and Triggerheart Exelica, which according to my tastes are masterpieces in their own ways.
I own bunch of shmups like Shikigami No Shiro ( Castle of shikigami ) I played probably all Touhou games... Let's not forget Mushihime... Guwange...Hitogata Happa, Gundemonium...so many I can't think of them right now, which makes me look dumb cause I barely named a few after stating I own a bunch, but whatever. I even downloaded Shmups for Android, Yes, I'm a sad sad kid. Oh and add KOF Sky Stage and all related products to the list, I also played a few Neo Geo Shmups.
Anyway I'll stop making your eyes bleed and end this post, thanks for reading, whoever you may be.
If anyone wants to co-op, I play A LOT of Otomedius Extreme and DeathSmiles 2X... my PS3 and XBOX Live names goes by my username on this forum SeraphXion

Fortunately these credits were played on Blackoak's (now my) Espgaluda PCB. Being the nice guy he is, he lets us use the key to the coin box rather than making us show up with rolls of 100 yen coins.trap15 wrote:Cab >>>>>>>> 360Esupanitix wrote:Welcome, you could have bought the 360 port of Espgaluda and more with 10,000 yen if you hadn't stayed at the machine.siddacious wrote:Hi guys! I'm newly into shmups, mainly due to a re-introduction by blackoak, whom I've known for years. We played through Jamestown at a party and I really enjoyed it. At another soiree, he suggested that I try espgaluda. 10,000 yen or so later, I'm hooked. I'm enjoying the progression enough that I'll probably focus on it until I can 1cc it. Who knows how long that will take.
Welcome to the club though.

Example, I'd like to Co-Op online on Otomediues Excellent, where do I post about it ?

Korszca, NeoStrayCat and especially dieKatze88 are all totally gay for Otomedius. No idea why, since the series is two shades shy of total trash, but whatever floats your boat.

Let me get this clear, and I'll probably only say this once.
I'm not the type to play 'The best Shmups ONLY' or anything like that. If I like the game AT ALL, and can find some entertainment in it, without it being in the masturbatory-top 5 zomg-best ever, I'll still play it, So yeah thank you for the link, you calling the game trash is your opinion, but I play games if I can have fun out of them, not if they are known or seen as good.

Hello and welcome to the forums SeraphXion. I also like Triggerheart Exelica, and the NeoGeo has some pretty cool stuff on it too. Stick around for a while and you'll find a lot more cool stuff to play than your backlog can handle.

Re: The Self-Introduction Thread
Just before New Years I suppose.
I'm an 18-year-old who loves playing doujin shooters. As a kid, I've always loved playing arcade shooters. I probably played a bunch of crappy euroshmups when I was young but I didn't really seem to mind since I still had fun. People also consider Metal Slug as a borderline shmup so I may as well mention it here: I used to be a big fan of the Metal Slug series. I've managed to 1cc Metal Slug 4 and 5 when I was 11 but to this day I still have yet to get that elusive Metal Slug 3 1cc.
Anyway, Triggerheart Exelica holds a lot of memories for me since it was my first bullet-hell shooter. I played it for the first time when it was re-released on the Xbox Live Arcade in 2008. The bullet-hell sub-genre rekindled my love for shooters and I began to take more interest in games where they spewed a large amount of bullets on the screen. Sometime in 2009, I discovered the Touhou series which pretty much whisked me off into the world of doujin danmaku. It certainly seemed like I was going to end up being one of the many silly Touhou players now on YouTube...
Until sometime in early 2011. After hearing a bit about Seihou and Samidare, I decided to give them a try. While Seihou Shuusou Gyoku was fun, it didn't seem to click with me and oddly enough, I ended up enjoying Seihou Banshiryuu (both C67 and C74 versions) more. Samidare also quickly became one of my all-time favourites. Despite it being a 20 minute game (10 minutes for the main game and 10 minutes for the extra stage), I apparently have about 45 hours of gameplay in it (and I still suck at Extra scoring). Samidare soon aroused my curiosity in doujin shooters and sometime in September 2011, I tried out Crimzon Clover and loved the game. Many people claimed it was similar to "CAVE" shooters but I didn't know what that was at the time, haha. 2011 drew to its close and around Christmas I began to try out other doujin shooters like Blue Wish Ressurection and RefRain ~prism memories~. It was also the first time I tried out HELLSINKER. I didn't understand a single thing I was doing in that game at the time.
2012 came along and not even 8 hours into the New Year, I set up MAME and tried out Dodonpachi. It was quite the experience until I loaded up Dodonpachi Daioujou. While I sucked at the game - and I still do - there was something about the game's charm that made me love it. Then I tried out Ketsui and I ended up loving Ketsui more than Daioujou. And that began 2012, the year where I started to try actual arcade shooters again after years of playing doujin ones, and the year when I joined this forum.
Aside from CAVE shooters, I also enjoy Battle Garegga and Battle Bakraid. I find it fun to just pop in some credits and play while forgetting about scoring. Soukyugurentai is probably my favourite Raizing shooter though. I decided to give Hellsinker another chance sometime in April and it slowly became one of my favourite doujin shooters.
I don't know what else to say. I did forget to mention some of my other favourites like Trouble Witches Neo and the eXceed series (well the first game is really lackluster to put it lightly, so maybe not the entire series).
Anyway, nice to meet you all. It was a fun first year here and I hope to soon gain the courage to shmupmeet with others in my area. Lookin' at you moh.
Oh and while I'm here, I may as well do another one of those "played a shmup, can't remember what it is" questions. I was really young at the time but I remember playing a hori shooter on the SNES and the first level took place in some forest or something. Anyone have an idea?

There's an even better version on the Megadrive featuring many of the same stages called Thunderforce III. And there's a 4, 5 and 6, too!

Yup! That was the one! I'll take a look into it sometime. I instantly knew it was the game when I saw the first boss. I remembered how it had that weak core in the middle that you had to shoot. Thanks!louisg wrote:Could it have been Thunder Spirits?

Hello people,
I have been collecting arcade boards for years, then switched to full size pinball machines,
but I am still in love with PCB's and arcade games even if not exactly shmups, I hope you will forgive me
for being part of your community nonetheless
I am more into japanese puzzle games than shoot'em up's perhaps it's due to player aging... ^_^
Now that I think about it a little bit I happen to own a Space Ianvaders from 1978 so that will hopefully allow me to be here ha ha
Seriously, thank you for such a nice forum!

Hello! My name is Nick. I am a freshman at MN State Moorhead, double majoring in Mass Communications, and Film Production. I've pretty much been gaming since I came out of the womb. Technically, my first game was Super Street Fighter II Turbo for the SNES, when my Dad introduced me to gaming at the age of two. But the first game I actually remember playing was Spyro on the PSX, when I was... four?... Ever since, video games have been a significant hobby of mine. When I was about 8, a close friend made me play Xevious on his Namco plug-n-play joystick thing. And thats when it all began! Shmups have been one of my favorite genres ever since.
Most of my shmup playing has been spent on the Saturn. But I recently got a chipped PS2 Slim, so now I've been spending quite a lot of time with that. So many games!!
My other preferred video game genres are 2D Run'n'Gun/Beat'em'Up/Platformer/Anythings, Not-Generic Racers, Action RPG's, and anything really weird and/or trippy.
I'm happy to be a part of this community! Glad to see there are many individuals who love shmups as much as I do.

My first encounter with DOJ was when the PS2 port came out, and completely hated it since it was so hard. Mind you my shmupping skills were rather weak back then. I had to shelve it and and focused on DP/DDP first, then came back and loved it (or rather did much better).safetyboy wrote:Hey you lot, I'm from Wicklow Ireland and currently playing DDP DOJ like a lunatic, but still can't get past 3rd level without a continue, grew up on Nemesis, R-type, Jackal and Gemini wing.. this DOJ is going through the window soon if I can't grasp it..![]()

Yes I have an original cab and board for Midway Space Invaders, and also a PCB for the japanese Space Invaders DX

As I said I'm quite aged... I was collecting PCB's in the mid 80's...
