I tend to get so deep into certain genres that I end up burning myself out on them rather quickly, and recently I've re-entered a phase of listening to LOTS of rap whether good or bad. I love bad rap. In six months I may hate all rap. However, my album of the year is a high quality rap album (if such a thing exists).

Action Bronson- Rare Chandeliers

On my favorite track of the album, Bronson rhymes "Put my head right through the Monet. Ole!" Amathing.

In terms of stuff released this year, it has to be Dada Cat's mental Balkan breakcore album Gypsycore for me.

Fast paced, erratic and bat-shit crazy as hell, I sincerely adore it.

And it's legally free here.

Awesome! Oddly enough, I was actually going to message you about this. I recalled you posting something about this album before, but couldn't remember the name of the group. Been back on a breakcore kick as of late.

Will be grabbing as soon as I get home. Thanks again

Lento - Anxiety Despair Languish
Great instrumental Doom/Sludge, sometimes with stronger Ambient influences. Somewhat complex and very hard to get into, so I needed a lot of listens (more than with the predecessor Icon), but now I love it. Their concert with Kasan was outstanding (my best one this year).

Kasan - Drown
Small band from Leipzig/Germany who play some very dark and melodic instrumental Post Rock / Doom Metal and such. Great song structures and intensifications and more groove than most other bands in this kind of music. Got me hooked immediately.

A Forest of Stars - A Shadowplay for Yesterdays
Haven't listened to the other albums so far, but this is great. Be sure to check out the animated video for Gatherer of the Pure.

Alcest - Les voyages de l'âme
Fell in love just after listening to "Autre temps".

Haven't listened to that much stuff from 2012 to be honest. I always tend to fall behind, still need to check out a lot (new Nile, Swallow the Sun, Katatonia and Ihsahn for example). I was disappointed by the new Wintersun on the first listen, but need to give it more tries. Last but not least, I'll finally have a listen to the self-titled album from The Eye of Time who I also saw live several weeks ago.

For 2013 I'm anticipating the new album from Terra Tenebrosa the most! Sadly they didn't make it in 2012, but well, them making a good album is the main thing.

Concatenating Fields by Trouble Books. I own the vinyl. FLAC download for $7 -- a bargain.

Just curious, how many albums from 2012 have you guys listened to? I'm at around 200 currently, I'll squeeze more in before the year ends.

knowing this band's previous works, I've been looking forward to the album, and it was just as I expected. this is really good melodic death metal.

Dada Cat also just did a (again - legally free) breakcore/grindcore crossover LP. Not as good as Gypsycore, but well worth some ear time!

Here it is.

You'll also see a compilation of his on that page, called Gypsycore II. It has a swastika on the cover, but I'm assured it's the nice kind.

In a similar vein to Dada Cat, and also from the Ukraine, Fat Frumos has put out some great stuff this year (speedcore, chiptune, rave type stuff), such as album Chiprave Monstre. I'm normally no fan of chiptunes, but chip rave? And covers like this? Ace!

Already grabbed Grindcore, but when I tried to get Gypsycore II, it was set at $980 to buy it, so obviously I didn't.

Thanks again for the links. Will check out this Chip rave bizness this evening.

Just checked out that Chiprave album....kind of misleading. There is practically nothing chip about it, aside from a couple chippy arp's on that Bob the builder track and a bit on that YURI track. They even have it tagged with 'chiptune', and '8bit breakcore', but where is the chip/8bit? Not bad stuff, but not at all what I expected.

Thanks for the link for Gypsycore II
