Re: The Official Cool PCB You Just Got Thread!
I got it for Y20500 (+rancor's fees and shipping).moh wrote:Hey trap, how much did you nab ibara for (if you dont mind me asking)?
I'm thinking of picking up my first cave board, and since I know Ibara is one of the cheaper ones..
Would have been about 16000 if it weren't for STV...

"Market price" for them seems to be closer to Y25000 to Y30000 though.

STV tax >_>
thanks for the info guys. And yeah, I've considered esprade, but it doesnt look too fun to be honest
I think I'm gonna go with espgaluda as my first board :] gotta wait for some stuff to sell first though
you guys think $300 could grab me an espgaluda board?

Re: The Official Cool PCB You Just Got Thread!
they don't show up too often anymore, but $300 is a good price to shoot for, maybe a couple bucks extra for shipping. there aren't any on yaj at the moment (here is a search link for you). keep an eye on that and maybe shoot rancor a pm. he's usually up to date on pcb shop prices.moh wrote:STV tax >_>

i had an esprade. not a very fun game. sold it after a few months. galuda on the other hand is one of my favorite cave games. definitely a good first board. great music, fun scoring system, not too difficult, gender changing fairies- it has it all really.
Re: The Official Cool PCB You Just Got Thread!
As a first board I'd get something that's not available otherwise. Espgaluda's super awesome happy PS2 port is even better than the PCB in my opinion.
Re: The Official Cool PCB You Just Got Thread!
Yeah, also ESP Ra.De. owns, get that
Also don't play for WR scores, it'll make you hate the game.

I'll second this -- no ESP.Ra.De. port means the PCB is a good one to have.CIT wrote:As a first board I'd get something that's not available otherwise. Espgaluda's super awesome happy PS2 port is even better than the PCB in my opinion.
Where's all the hate coming from for this game? It's definitely one of my top 10 most played shootans.

Re: The Official Cool PCB You Just Got Thread!
The hitbox is dumb, the stage scoring didn't really interest me, and boss scoring is some of the worst milking i've ever seen. The game just didn't do it for me, but on the plus side the board is very reasonably priced and you can easily flip it if you don't like it.
Might want to add progear as a cheap cave board to think about.

Well, to be honest, I've never played esprade before, but lookin it up on youtube-land, the music is annoying, and the graphical style doesnt really appeal to me :[
Is it playable in MAME?

Sure is. I can understand not liking the graphical style (prerendered 3D, meh), but the music is rockin'!

Re: The Official Cool PCB You Just Got Thread!
Music quality for ESPRade isn't the best but neither is the YouTube videos going around for it. I'm sure I'd be just as easily fooled into looking down on the quality of a game like Hellsinker if I didn't look past the screen capture quality issues.
Hitbox made sense to me considering all three characters have got a really noticeable collar on them where said hitbox is, but meh. Kids these days and their shiny glittery hitboxes in the center of their flying lolis.

Re: The Official Cool PCB You Just Got Thread!
esp.ra.de was my second board after donpachi, it took a little while to get used to the hitbox but i got the feel of it fairly quickly and it does feel like a natural place for it. also i felt it was pretty good in terms of easing myself into more danmaku games as theres nothing really intense until level 4 and even then its pretty managable. it helped me develop some different standard response movements that really helped when i went back to donpachi and a lot of those im still using in garegga. ive played a little of espgaluda and didn't really like it at first the way its geared towards using the shield regularly rather than bullet dodging, and felt overly easy playing for survival, though having played a bit more it is quite enjoyable but its not on my list of boards to own.
Re: The Official Cool PCB You Just Got Thread!
I've been doing some research on esprade boards and it seems like a lot of people have issues with the pcbs. Can anyone give any information on how reliable the hardware is?

Re: The Official Cool PCB You Just Got Thread!
It's an MC68000 board like most older CAVE titles , I personally never had any problems with any of them .
Re: The Official Cool PCB You Just Got Thread!
Just in time for Christmas, a Gunnail PCB (NMK) reached my mailbox this morning!
Rare one.

How it's still working on the original battery is anyone's guess... Cotton!

So did you have to get a Konami to Jamma convertor loom to get Pandora's Palace up & running, Dave K.? (I see with the 1984 copywrite date, it certainly predates the Jamma standard that got started back in 1986 by a mere two years indeed.)

Thanks Dave

Pandora's Palace with such a low serial is a nice catch too ! I didin't know this game, until I see it on Yahoo Japan.. looks like a fun game. By looking at the pics, it somewhat reminds me the ol' Donkey Kong in the arcades

Re: The Official Cool PCB You Just Got Thread!
How much did it cost Dave? That's one I'd quite like to get myself.

Yep, I had to make myself a Konami to Jamma adapter so I could plug it into my cabs.PC Engine Fan X! wrote:So did you have to get a Konami to Jamma convertor loom to get Pandora's Palace up & running
Only problem now is that these early vertical games rotate the opposite direction (and no screen flip option) so its playing upside down. So I guess I need to implement a yoke flip switch on one of my monitors

I've herd people say it plays like an upside down donkey kong, where you start at the top left and work your way down to the bottom right. The music and sound effects are very similar too.cvaniafan wrote:By looking at the pics, it somewhat reminds me the ol' Donkey Kong in the arcades
I picked it up on KLOV for $80 shipped. I've been on the lookout for one ever since my friend in Japan bought one off eBay back in January. I haven't seen it on YAJ or know what it fetches over there, but apparently there weren't many made (hence the low serial numbers), and was only offered as a conversion kit.system11 wrote:How much did it cost Dave? Re: The Official Cool PCB You Just Got Thread!
A PGM2 DOJ - brand new but the plastic POP (which they supply separately as PGM2 boxes are small) is damaged

And a NOS Deathsmiles Mega Black Label kit. Again a downside, NOS does not mean perfect, it means it's been on the shelf a long time, and sure enough the box is slightly worse for wear (someone has even used the side for some calculations...)

I've had to complain to Legend about the damage on both. Surprised as I used them a lot in the past and never had problems like this.

Good things come in 3s though.

On the left is R-Type, I bought it a month or so ago, arrived broken with RAM faults, argued with seller and got partial refund eventually - repaired it tonight and converted it from Nintendo to standard JAMMA. Nintendo got the boards from Irem and modified them for their cabinets, it's a simple enough job to reverse it. Top right is Image Fight, bought it a few weeks ago faulty and very cheap - fixed it yesterday. Bottom right is Gallop which looks like someone repaired it before me
They did a clean job though, so it's all good.
Or sometimes on their own.

Easy to put them back to normal:alien_mame wrote:Nice work on the R-Type d00d!

1: Remove the wire jumper from C108 (+) to C102 (-)
2: Remove soldered wire link between D1 and D2.
3: Add C101 and C102. Both are electrolytic 2200uf 16V.
4: Add C108, electrolytic 1uf 50V.

Some of you may know where i got these from
I'm new to this so i need some help with 'dip switch' informations, 'settings' to adjust screen and etc...
Any members has these same PCBs, please PM or link me to the right direction, your help will be much appreciated
