R.I.P. Click-Stick

Post by Dave_K. »

Well, with no news updates for 2 months, and now the bbs being down for a week, things aren't looking to good at click-stick. Guess we will be seeing more of ntsc-j and recap on here. :D

http://click-stick.com/bbs/index.php

works 100% fine.

Maybe has something to do with the 'nigga' thing

Click sold off a lot of games and stuff recently, I wouldn't expect he'll be giving it much attention from hereon out. We'll just use Thirdstrike for news...

Both http://click-stick.com/bbs/index.php and http://click-stick.com work fine right now. Transient errors are not uncommon for websites.

Actually, the BBS works fine for me on FireFox. However, it's not loading on my browser of choice (Opera).

If the BBS is working so good, how come nobody's been able to reply to a thread in the main forum since the 16th of last month?

Um, yeah, I can remove my cookie and browse the forum as anonymous, but try to log in, and poof! None of the registered users can make any posts.

Guests can't post in the main forum either. I tried it an hour or two ago.

I'm mainly concerned about the recent lack of news on click-stick; that site was an excellent news source regarding import games.

Just posted to verify you can do it. At first, it seems you're not logged in, but actually, you are as you can see if you refresh the page.

That's swell, but can anyone reply to it? Threads have been started in the past two weeks, but none replied to.

I just did it. People have come to think they can't log in due to the apparent problems, hence they don't keep the board alive, I suppose.

Oh, I'm not talking about the login issue, I get that as well. Its just after I log in, and reload, I still can't post, I get that same phpBB error msg I posted above. Maybe its just me...but both IE and Netscape have the issue on my machine.

You wish! I haven't been posting much at click's because there's just nothing I want to talk about concerning games. I'm a busy man, you see. I'm sorry to see click's change of interests since he was so good with his site, but he's found more important things so I'm happy for him.

I don't really know what is up with this stupid error...

Since my web host sucks about tech support, who knows when this will be resolved. Sorry. Not sure what I can do in the meantime...

I'm sure you guys can manage with news on your own now, since all I really did was compile stuff from any number of other news sites. Good luck and sorry.

Well, in any case, I would hope that the members over there can remain friendly with those of us over here. I also wouldn't mind at all if they decide to post over here, if the choose to do so.

If there are any "grudges" still floating around, I think its time for them to be buried...

If you take it that most of the above comments are true, then it sounds like the database has been corrupted, and some users are valid, some not, possibly varying by table. Get the hosts to do a consistency check on mysql, and possibly pull a backup from a few weeks ago (hopefully, they have these...).

This is why I always tell people not to use bloody mysql because it always pulls this shit when hit heavily - trouble is, while there are great alternatives, nobody seems to care about using them, including people who write forum software.

Dang, that stinks. I loved click-stick's news and art archives and I love my TATE shirt. And have u really sold off a lot of your stuff, Brian? C'mon, don't pull a mode7 on us, man. :(

EDIT: How about giving the site so someone can at least archive/host it if you feel the need to let the site itself totally go? (assuming someone offers)

I'm not sure if I will re-register the URL and web hosting, but if I don't, I will mirror the site elsewhere on another bit of web space. If someone else really wants to archive it elsewhere as well, I can give them the files. That wouldn't be a problem. I certainly don't want to toss out all that labor like it was nothing.

Most of the game stuff is gone, probably close to 75%. All that's left is the DC and some games, and older stuff like my NES and Genesis. [And PSOne which hasn't been touched in a couple years. The PS2 is hopefully on its way out soon.]

Sorry to hear that. The niche gaming community isn't huge, so it's sad for everyone when a generally endeared site closes its doors. Best of luck in whatever life is throwing at you right now.

At least with the internet you'll always have the option of buying back most games you've sold away now, at some future date, if you feel you want to get back into gaming again.

I kinda know what its like to sell stuff off...BUT, its always been by choice, or I simply grew tired of a certian console and games.
I realized early on that I missed the 8 and 16 bit days when I sold everything to buy the "next best/newest console out". I"ve considered selling off my collection to have the extra money to upgarde my classic Hotrod, but I thought more about it, and I would sorely miss everything. So I kept my collection. Its a pretty good one, I would hate to let it go...

I just hope that anyone selling their stuff off is doing it for the right reasons.
Sure, you can always go back and "re-collect"...but lets face it, that sucks!
Also, emulation can aid when your feeling the blues...but it cannot replace complete originals.
I'm addicted I guess!!! :D

I wish it had been my choice... unfortunately, life threw shit at me and my only awy of dealing was by selling off my 'investment', as I used to pitch it to my GF.

I don't miss half as much of it as I thought I would, but really would like to get back all my Saturn gear at some point.
