Welcome! Nice collection too, by the way! How much did that J.J. Squawkers run you? Happens to be one of my favorite run'n'guns :)

Hello everyone. I'm a long time lurker and just recently decided to join. I have been a shmup player for years but have decided to get into collecting as well as playing them. I don't own a ton so far, maybe 10 total over several different consoles, but I'm sure that will grow quickly. I'd also like to eventually own a Candy Cab of some sort, but I'm not in a hurry on that. I don't have the room right now anyway.

In any event. Hello!

Thank you.
I didn't fully understood your question ^^'.
J.J. Is a really good plateform game, but so hard ... Typicaly a game to play at 2 (one who play and an other who look for details :P).
But I would not call it a Run'n'guns, if no near all plateforms'games can be call like that... Into J.J. you have to keep some ennemy alive to reach some plateforms, that show you that killing is less important than point gathering. :P .

Hoping I answered your question.

I actually meant how much did the PCB cost? I've been considering buying one at some point.

I guess you're right though about it not really being a run'n'gun. It's a bit of a combination run'n'gun and platformer I'd say :)

Bought my original (2boards) for 120€ this year.

DrKitty is known to sell bootlegs, so it's quite likely that the one you bought from him isn't the Korean version, but actually a bootleg.
Not too bad of a price for the original version though, very nice.

So, after having minor problems during registration I finally found my way to the board, another long time lurker. :D

The XBLA release of Radiant Silvergun first sparked my interest in the genre and it wasn't long until I had all games that I can play on my PAL console on my shelf. I didn't really dare to sign up here until I had something to show for. In the last couple of weeks I finally got my first clears after playing off and on for about a year with a couple of months long stretches of not playing STGs at all. But that first feeling of success really fueled my motivation to play these games and ever since I got my first clear I haven't been playing anything else... except for a couple of point and click adventures.
And this board helped me a lot with those clears, especially Hydeux's 1-sissy videos on youtube, where I first heard of bullet herding and stuff like that, so thanks for those!

welcome to the board, buddy! I feel that hydeaux's clears seem easy because he's fairly good at them, so what he says is easy, i still find hard! =[

CONGRATS ON THE CLEARS, THOUGH! :D

I know what you mean. Futari BL Original was my first clear and it took me at least 150 credits, most of them I played after watching the 1-sissy... :(

I've been looking at these forums for quite a while (mainly the high scores), and since I was interested in stuff like shmups, MAME, and scoring points, I figured I'd join these forums. Who knows, I might set a Western record, or even break a Japanese record. I really hope that I can make myself home in the Shmups Forums. I'm sorry I don't have anything more to say.

Hello.

Nothing much to say about me except that I'm a researcher. Yes, I'm a researcher : I'm searching for some video game items. I don't play from a long time, fortunately.

Oh, hm, my favourite shmup is Parodius.
I like really cute visuals. I don't fear difficulty but it takes too much time to memorize, I'm too old for that now.

See you,

Hello! Nice to meet you slimeslime, I like your name, and hope you find the forums to your liking!

So what exactly are you researching? My anthropology class just started a project where we're supposed to research a community of our choosing -- are you one of me? How do you feel about slime porn?

Best,

Ah I totally forgot to introduce myself..

I've been a long time lurker here as well and thought it was time to join up :) I've recently moved to Oslo from Africa where I was working and where I lived most of my life. I've always been into arcade games and especially shmups but let's just say that Africa isn't exactly the boom town of the arcade world.

But now I'm here with internet that actually works and I've promised myself that I'll take shmupping more seriously! Thought I'd start out with something easy so Espgaluda it is! Nothing to write home about just yet but at least I've made it to stage3 without dying hah

I hope to be a genuine part of this excellent community and I'm very happy that I'm finally in a country where I can actually get hold of all the games I've always wanted to play!

Thanks for having me.

Hello good people of Shmups.

I saw the thread where Josh got banned and thought I would register. I've crept a little bit here and there. Nice forums you have, this is the first time I've ventured outside of NG.com in quite some time, I've seen a lot of members I know there post here. I'm looking forward to posting.

Hello errybody!

Been lurking a bit for a past few weeks, got Guwange(XBLA) and Deathsmiles (Games on Demand >_< which doesn't have DLC!) and fell in love with BULLETS.

Since I'm here in HK for the weekend, picked up some more from what I read here.

Image
(Not shown Mushi HD which I also picked up after.)

The shop I got it from also had Ketsui (LE and regular) and Deathsmiles IIX (LE and regular) in stock.
(Gamehit in Oriental 188, Wan Chai)

Prices are pretty okay I think?
Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu 1.5 LE - 660HKD (~85USD)
Mushihime-sama Futari LE - 800HKD (~104USD)
Mushihime-sama HD LE - 750HKD (~97USD)

>_> They didn't have Platinum Hits or Cave Selection titles (Wanted to get DFK Black Label as well).

Now I do not know where to start after clearing Deathsmiles.

Hello and good day to everyone.

I am what could be considered a casual shmup player (if that even exists), having played this genre almost for my entire life sporadically. I only got "serious" about it with Touhou some years ago, even if I never did anything actually remarkable; as of now I've returned to playing shmups after having found the eXceed series and Cave games (as in Ketsui Death Label, and by inertia, the arcade edition of such game).

Basically, I'm looking for discussion, strategy and motivation to try and get serious with a couple of my favorites. My current aims are the aforementioned Ketsui and Touhou 13 - Ten Desires.

Hoping for the best, let's go!

I'm new to the forum; hello!

Currently I'm new to shmups, but want to learn more. I'm thinking about getting a pc engine at some point. Growing up, I played the crap out of Pulstar at a local arcade.

Should I be looking for a pc engine duo or any other specific models? And what is a good starter list besides R-Type? Thanks!

Hello! I... am... a... MARSHMALLOW! That plays shmups. I bet you don't see that every day!

I must admit that Touhou was the series that got me into shumps to begin with. I have since "graduated" to better things, such as Cave(although I did break for a moment to try and dislike Touhou 13)! Of course, it's places such as this that remind a shmup fan that Cave isn't the sole good developer in existence, so I'm still spreading around :)

Hi, all. I'm an arcade/pcb collector. My shoot em up collection is pretty small so far. My rarer boards are probably Cybattler and Wyvern Wings. Not sure if any of you all actually like those two  My favorite shoot em ups are Toaplan's. As far as the genre goes, probably the coolest thing in my collection is an upright Truxton with full art. Anyways, been lurking here and there for a while, so I finally registered!
