BTOOM!

Post by Aleksei »

So Jun'ya Inoue did lots of artwork for CAVE,
IMO some of the best, his manga is pretty cool too, its like Guwange and ESP.Ra.De

Jun'ya Inoue's current work BTOOM! is airing now in Japan and I have seen the first 10 episodes and I have to say, I like that Inoue adds references to CAVE games,
In one episode you can see the commander of donpachi corps in his infamous seated position similar in view of how he presented in DFK (blackened eyes), and only for a brief second among many screens shown in episode 7 I believe.
Then theres the obvious likeness to the main blonde character and her in game avatar is has EXY's eyes...those purple blacked out ones. Finally, there are Deathsmiles figures on a desk in episode 10 I think! I wish those figures did exist $$.

I also wish they make the three elemental dolls from the current DDP into figures as well $$$...

Or at least Maria

Yeah, I pretend I've never seen Gantz and Battle Royale when watching this, at least the pace is way better than Gantz in terms of animation hardyharhar.

And here I came thinking a shmup of that shit was on its way...

Jun'ya makes some awesome drawings but hell if he lacks in the "story" department. A nice fantasy story would be more interesting coming from his drawing tablet (?)... Made with a proper story, of course, hope he sees this and associates with a good writer.

I mean, he has lots of cave fans out there who want to support him, don't they?

I play Air Gallet music while reading new chapters of Btooom. I think it sets the mood for the story rather nicely.

Have you read his manga Otogi Matsuri? I really enjoyed it, but never finished it.

I've read most of the scanlation of Otogi Matsuri and Btooom! and I dig both. I quite like Btooom! and I am anxiously waiting the US versions coming next year. Admittedly, Im sure I dig both because of my love of Inoue's art, but really, both deserve a look in.

I would absolutely love to check out the anime. Hopefully someone will subtitle that soon.

What? I didn't even know there was an anime for this. I had only thought it was a manga
This is my signature. It's so unique, nobody else has it.

The English version of the manga is what I meant - supposed to be publishing it early next year. Downloaded all those episodes - I know what I'll be watching on my plane flights this week! Thanks!

No problem! I don't see the English manga getting too popular though, probably too many kiddies going to complain how its a "hunger games rip off ooooh I'm a weeboo".

Actually, iirc, you were the one who mentioned Casper was in the manga, that's what actually got me checking the manga out

Holy shit it really is Teenage Casper. O_O

I'm liking it so far. Helps that I've heard of Battle Royale and a tiny bit of Gantz but haven't actually watched them. At least I'm not getting completely uggggghhhhhed out of watching the rest, kept in by some amount of curiosity of "what happens next".

I want season 2 to happen. Wishful thinking. :(
I am SO watching this.

This thread probably belongs in off topic but oh well. I finished watching the anime and quite liked it! Shame it never got a 2nd season. At least it seems to be regularly released in English by Yen Press. I'll probably start reading when I have time.

Hanabee's english DVD release of this (in Australia anyway) absolutely butchered the music and makes me want to puke at anything with that company logo. "Clean" intro/outro in Special Features plays the opposite tune to it and is grossly higher pitched, it's like I'm listening to Alvin and the Chipmunks trying to sing it. :(

I totally need to get into the manga and there totally needs to be a video-game version of this. Apparently the manga's kinda gone off the rails though?

I remember Btoom, I liked the anime despite being cutted short. At the time, I didn't know the author worked at Cave, but that explain the guy in the first episode looking like Ikeda and some bomb's design reminishing from Ketsui's chips.

It also made another manga called "La Vie En Doll", an urban fantasy with loli just like Deathsmiles. I think some of the enemies looked like Esp.Ra.De's final boss or something.
