Thank god! The only game I really care about anymore. Wish they hadn't taken down that video right away, I'd have loved to have seen it. Either way, more souls was inevitable. Bring it!

Cool. I'd rather they make a new completely original Souls title though. Here's to hoping they manage to make the setting and world feel fresh.

Dark Souls II will be available for the PlayStation 3, PC, and the Xbox 360.
Fuck yes. Hopefully with proper keyboard and mouse support.

Hmm... Miyazaki is only acting as a supervisor on this. Hopefully the new director won't do anything stupid. Either way, I'm excited.

I'm kinda curious what you mean by this? I don't want to second guess you here, but certainly we can't tell enough from the trailer to know how 'original' it might be.

That is good news.
I wish they change the name though. I liked how Demon's and Dark were actually almost the same game, but not sequels. We want more !

Cool news. I still haven't beat the first one though. Got stuck on something and never got around to getting past it. Maybe this will motivate me. Love the new trailer.

I'm hoping for the following:

- Separation of multiplayer and single-player. Co-op is fine. Make the game single player focused then throw in some arenas for ppl to duke it out. I just hate getting raped by random ppl. Something like Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light coop where the cooperation matters would be cool.

- More fucking with ppl's mind. For example, more of the prison level in Demons' Souls. That level was creepy as hell with the sounds of suffering and the bells, and when the octopi guards see you, there's panic. You just know you're gonna be fucked hard if you don't surprise them and finish 'em quick. They could also add a Sanity meter ala Eternal Darkness just to fuck your mind more.

- More enemy and level variety. I felt there just wasn't enough variety in enemies in Dark Souls and also, they needed more environmental hazards, level verticality and more traversal challenges like fighting on the beams in Anor Londo.

- Stable framerate throughout. It'll be their 3rd game and it's not like their engine is pushing Uncharted 3 quality graphics, so a repeat of the framerate issues from previous games is just unacceptable.

- A significant tweak in gameplay. While I love the gameplay in previous games, I think this one needs to differentiate itself more instead of just adding a couple new features and tweaks.

- Make the environment matter more with all the elements affecting your character. You know, it shouldn't feel the same to fight during a storm, in snow or inside a volcano.

- Better physics with the environment affecting you more. Dead bodies tripping you, rain, heat, wind, etc affecting character control and more.

I actually don't want any big change to this series, but I wouldn't mind them starting a new series. I just hope they fix the frame rate and input lag issues. There's a lot of things I DON'T want for Dark Souls--its a formula I think would be easy to mess up, so when I see big lists of things to change I get worried.

But aren't they already seperated apart from like two things?: using human form to kindle bonfires and trigger some events(this they could do away with imo).

If you don't need co-op dont stay in human form, if you want to co-op then invaders are the risk and balance the difficulty which I think is a pretty ingenious system.

From added arenas in the artorias DLC but most people prefer doing pvp by invasions and soapstones at the hubworld right next to them which says a lot.

I swear to god if they fuck this up...

I'm excited, but the comments from the new director aren't encouraging. Also he's apparently never directed any good games. I guess I'll just set my expectations really low, but that's hard to do for the sequel to the greatest game of this generation.

“I personally am the sort of person who likes to be more direct than subtle,” he tells us. “[Dark Souls II] will be more straightforward and more understandable.”

"” We sympathise if that sort of statement concerns you, but at the same time, we can surely agree that we would all like to see Dark Souls attain as great a presence as The Elder Scrolls. How it gets there is a worthy matter for debate, but it’s certainly a noble task."

says the new director, who is the director of monster hunter btw.

I mostly meant as 'XYZ Souls' and not 'Dark Souls 2'. Right now I'm not even sure if it's going to be directly related to the first game but personally I would prefer a completely new world with no relation to Dark Souls. With a couple cameos from previous games, of course.

There isn't really that much more that I would like to know about the Dark Souls world and in the worst case something that could be mediocre in a completely new story would become a game or lore ruining experience in a sequel.

I just got cursed in Dark Souls, this appears :

To lift the curse, you have to get a purging stone or see the cleric in New Londo

Damned, what is this shit ?? How am I supposed to find a puking stone ?? Where is that cleric already ? In New Reno ?? Where is that ?? Screw this, I press X, message disappears. And I have no clues what I am left with.

Sincerely, I hope Dark Souls II will take my hand and, in a case like this, place a big red point on my map, show me a topscreen arrow always pointing in the direction I have to go, (with the distance remaining to walk next to it), and make that cleric pretty for my lubric eyes.

Feel the irony ?

Considering New Londo is right below where you start I don't really see the problem.

"[Dark Souls II] will be more straightforward and more understandable," Shibuya told Edge.

Dark Souls II will feature a new hero, a fresh storyline, and an "unfamiliar" setting. "Epic battles with gruesome enemies" are promised, as well as a revamped server-based multiplayer mode that aims to "put a distinct Dark Souls II twist on the concept of playing with others."

This guy sounds like a total twat. The teaser trailer kinda has me worried, especially with the whole hot chick staring into the distance going on. I dunno, in Demon's/Dark Souls, one would think there would be no babes--you sure as hell can't create one. A new hero and more "understandable?"

I'm kinda worried about this new director. Anyone who uses the word "epic" to describe their new game probably deserves to be shot as well.

Just keep in mind its both a translation and right now they're trying to sell the investors. This is so close on the heels of Dark Soul its hard to even imagine them making up a whole new system. They're probably more afraid of people coming to the conclusion it will be more of the same.

You clearly haven't met my bright red (yes you can make weird colored characters) chick with long blond hair and a dude's face named 'Quantum Hooker'.

Few quotes from the Edge interview
We are able to establish that Dark Souls II will be a direct sequel to Dark Souls, and it will take place in an open world of similar dimensions to its predecessor but more dense with content. The game will not take place in Lordran, yet Shibuya won't disclose the name of the setting. "The name of the world will be the key to the story", he says. "We will reveal it eventually, but not in the first announcement. If Lordran was to be an area in a world called, say, Earth, the setting of this game will be somewhere completely different. The two places won't necessarily interact directly with each other, but, from a visual concept [standpoint] at least, it will be within the same world.

We're told the story will once again revolve around a character who is cursed and seeking to find the cure for his affliction, but Shibuya won't be drawn out further.
According to Shibuya, the team working on Dark Souls II is "substantially bigger". Though he won't quantify the growth numerically, he points out that the studio has nearly doubled the internal team focused on world creation alone, in addition to adding new members across every other department. When asked what state the game is currently in, he estimates it being roughly 25 per cent finished. In other words, if the current pace of development holds, you can almost definitely rule out the game arriving in 2013.
