I don't think trying to be wise about Zanac is necessary. Being rad is the way to go.

Likewise, I just checked only to be disappointed that it's nowhere to be found via my PSP (don't have a PS3). Their search function returns nothing for "Zanac" as well.

Just like the Vita you need to download it to a PS3 first - which is odd as the icon identifies it as a PS3/PSP game (unless this is something that is standard for all PSOne titles). I'm starting to wonder whether they simply do not want to put in the effort to test (or support) it on the PSP/Vita. That way when there is a glitch they can simply ignore it by saying that the game is "not supported" on that platform - only the PS3 version is officially supported (and ultimately the PS3 version is what you paid for - not for using it on the PSP/Vita).

What do you mean just like the Vita? Sony stopped selling their own cross-platform content to each device?
*jackiechanWTF.jpg*

So on PS3's PSN store, is Zanac appearing in the Japanese PS1 import category like Rockman 1-4, Sonic Wings, and Gaiaseed used to?

Sony badly wants me to buy not only Vita, but also PS3, huh? What's next, UMD reader for Vita users? Bring it on.

"Zanac X Zanac" is only for sale as a PS3 game. Once you own it as a PS3 game you are allowed to TRY and use it on your PSP or Vita by downloading it from the PS3 in its pre-installed state. If there are any problems on a PSP/Vita you are on your own - because it is sold as PS3 content - not content for either the PSP or Vita. I'm not expecting SCEA to put any more effort into the support of PSP downloads - its a legacy device, so further online support wouldn't be viewed as profitable. As far as the Vita is concerned new, shiny $19.99+ content is more important (i.e. more potential for profit) than "marginal" $5.99 "retreads". Basically It seems like Gungho Online America does not want the hassle of officially supporting PSP/Vita, so its sold as a PS3 game only.

They all can now be found under "Games > PS3 Games > Classics".

To get this on PSP, I assume I would need to be running OFW on the PSP? Has anyone tried downloading it through PS3 with a LCFW (but not booted into LCFW)? Gotta know before I drop ZOMG $6 on this!

I mean I could just be an a-hole and download a PS1 ISO and put that on PSP also.

Last night I discovered that the most fun way of playing Neo is treating power-ups like ammunition and charge-chaining through the game. Then it's purified skill against the machine and you MUST learn to like each and every weapon. I can see how it may be a bit too varied for newcomers' liking, thus my "find the ship/weapon you like best" advice stands valid.

Some time ago I accused the shmup genre of not having a game of Super Mario Bros. kind of appeal. I take it back. Zanac Neo is the one. There's no "wrong" way of playing this game and I'm almost glad it came along that late in the day. If it came out in the nineteen-eighties, where else would have had the genre to go?
Down to making it a game of eight directions and two buttons again after the 16-bit misadventure, Compile made this shmup like there was no tomorrow.

Now Garegga seems even more like somebody tried to make a Compile shmup for the arcades to me. Didn't quite work out, but nice try.

I made this video (better watched in 720p) that shows a little of content and gameplay of the Zanac X Zanac (PSN/PSone Classic version) which is a collection that brings together in a single package 3 versions of classic Zanac (ROM, Disk and Special) and also the official sequence named Zanac Neo:

Well fuck. You can't download the game directly from the Vita PSN store. PS3 store only. SOL for me since I have no TV or a PS3.

Then again I have CFW and have the Zanac X Zanac ISO on the memory stick already. :?

Well, aren't all PSX games played on PS3 extra laggy due to Sony being no good like that? Some firmware thing they refuse to fix, reportedly.

I didn't notice any problems with it, but I've never been really discerning with input lag.

Me too.

I know there are some problems related to lag and slow speed of games downloaded from PSN European (PAL 50 Hz) while in PSN American games run at 60Hz (NTSC). This video explains the problem:

After going to a friends house and used his PS3 I was able to get Zanac on my Vita.

Few things that I notice:

* PS3 PSN Store is fucking terrible. Very slow and lags like a mofo (even the button inputs were lagging). Vita PSN store is the best PSN store IMO when it comes to its GUI and performance.
* Don't install the game on your PS3 once you finish download it. The Vita will only take the install file.
* For Zanac you can either transfer the game over to the PS3 or you can go on the Vita PSN store to your download list and download it from there (Yet for Castlevania Chronicles you can only get the game on your Vita via PS3, el lamo).

So yeah, I really don't want to get a PS3 just to get stuff on my Vita.

You can run CFW on your PSP just fine when going to the PSP PSN store. Now for the PS3 FW I can't answer. The good news is that once you purchase Zanac on the PS3 you can also download the game on the PSP by going to the PSP PSN store and look at view downloads.

Been enjoying this nearly every day on my vita. Looks and controls like a dream. And I haven't even tested out Neo yet. Just been focused on the disc version of zanac. Awesome.
