unknown ps2 to jamma converter

Post by blackoak »

Does anyone have any experience with this device?

I got it in a trade awhile back, and hooked it up the other day. Its not the same MGCD one with the timer that Dave_K has blogged about. I've hooked it up to my Egret II and everything video/audio works; however, it does have an insert coin+timer overlay that appears on bootup (I'll take some pictures of that if it helps). So far I can't figure out how to "add coins", though. Neither the coin mechanism nor the coin button on the cab do anything. And I'm not sure if that's related, but none of the controls work either... I thought they might be locked out until you insert a coin?

I also have no idea what the dipswitches do. Turning the first one off removes the insert coin overlay, but I still get nothing from the controls. Any ideas?

a) Either you'll need to coin it or
b) You'll need to bridge the GNDs together, as EGRET II's grounds are separated

Well, I tried it on the Cyberlead, and it worked without inserting a coin. I was also able to turn the overlay off via the dipswitches. I wonder why controls didn't work on this Egret II, though? I'll try again later and see if it was just a bad connection or something. But from what you said and this thread, it sounds like it may be the separate ground issue you mentioned.
For it to work in my E2, which is stock from a wiring perspective, I had to run all my ground wires coming from the pad hacks to the top jamma harness grounds.

When I went to connect the grounds on my JAMMA adapter, I noticed that one of the ground wires had come lose. I've since made some serious re-soldering, but haven't had time to properly playtest (i credit fed through MMP, lol). #Lifegetsintheway

@blackoak: If you don't want to modify your EGRET II's grounds you can just solder a tiny wire on the edge connector of the PS2->JAMMA. Some folks modify the JAMMA harness by inserting a wire into the GND sockets on the back of the JAMMA female (where the wires go) and run it to the neighboring GND socket. It's kinda non-intrusive, but can be hard to reach etc.
