If you're up for it, you could build your own. The one in your eBay link is based on the same design.
If you want to buy one, I've heard good things about the FiiO E11. It's $50 at Amazon.
Headphone Amplifier
Re: Headphone Amplifier
The Fiio ones are great for the price. That ebay one doesn't look familiar to me. Might be the PA2V2.
Really though, this thread is all you need.
Just make sure you're using the line out from your ipod and actually have headphones that will benefit from an amp.

Re: Headphone Amplifier
You don't need a headphone amp for you ipod, unless your ipod does not get loud enough. This would be the case if you are using around 300-600 ohm impedance phones.

Re: Headphone Amplifier
I'd be a bit concerned about the line level output of the MP3's. I have a car MP3 radio modulator gadget and the output levels vary from MP3 to MP3. If you got headphones on and suddenly a really loud MP3 came on, it would require constant adjustment.

I have one of these. Had mine for about 6 or 7 years. They are excellent. A bit fiddly in terms of true portability, but nonetheless an excellent purchase.

I was thinking about plugging my Grado Sr60i's into some component leads (L+R) from my PS3's AV port (60BG SaCD). Do you need a 3.5mm jack converter to RCA for that work with this?

Re: Headphone Amplifier
Yeah, 3.5mm is the only input on these and most portable headphone amps.neorichieb1971 wrote:I was thinking about plugging my Grado Sr60i's into some component leads (L+R) from my PS3's AV port (60BG SaCD). Do you need a 3.5mm jack converter to RCA for that work with this?

Re: Headphone Amplifier
I hope you don't mean to plug it in directly. This is exactly what you might need a headphone amp for. The av port on the ps3 is not meant to drive headphones.neorichieb1971 wrote: I was thinking about plugging my Grado Sr60i's into some component leads (L+R) from my PS3's AV port (60BG SaCD). Re: Headphone Amplifier
Sorry to rebump this topic.
I am considering also to buy a headphone amplifier but I am not worried about the portable side, as it will be be "glued" to the desktop. Mainly it's going to be used to listening to Alac files stored in my mac and X360 gaming.
I know it's a bit overkill, but considering the price and the connections, anyone would not recommend buying an AV receiver like that for 195 Eur?

Or maybe it's more suitable an AMP/DAC like the FIIO E9 for 120 Eur
