I'm so glad they're adding in inverted controls.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

I'm amazed this series is still going. That said, I enjoyed the first, so I'll likely by this one just to support new releases in the genre.

I'm going to get Nano Assault Neo for Wii U and EX for 3DS.

Neo looks too good to pass up. the visuals remind me of Good Egg Galaxy from Mario Galaxy. So far one of the best showcases for what Wii U's GPU can do.

Has anyone played Nano Assault Neo? If it's worthwhile, I might get it to give me something to play until Pikmin 3 comes out.

Yeah, I actually got it today. It's a pretty solid twin-stick shooter from what I've played so far, and it looks gorgeous. I've only played an hour or so at most, but it seems fun enough. Haven't really been paying much attention to the scoring, but it seems like there's a DDP-style chain system of a sort (basically keep killing stuff and don't let the chain meter go to zero), and once you've killed 90% of the stuff on the level, you rush to the exit. The upgrade system (done via a shop in between levels) is sort of a turn off, but there's basically only one super-important item in the shop, which increases your max multiplier, so it might not really be a big deal. Interestingly, a large part of your score is based on accuracy, which makes the game feel a lot different from other twin-stick shooters I've played. It really encourages getting in close, and not just spamming shots everywhere, and that's actually surprisingly refreshing and enjoyable. Only played the first set of levels so far, but I'll get into the later ones tomorrow probably. It seems worth $10, especially if you're like me and looking for something else to play on the Wii U. Gamepad play is nice. Leaderboards are functional, though hilariously the digits places 100s and above are cut off by the image of a flag, leading many a 2301st ranked player to boast about being ranked #1 on Miiverse :D

Bought this on day one of the console release and it's all i've been playing. Reminds me a lot of Super Stardust in gameplay but has a character of its' own due to the spiffy lookin' graphics. I'm not great at this type of game but it's entertaining enough for £8.

Having seen some of the prices for the Wii U commercial games, I'd definitely recommend this. Lot better value than the 3DS or Wii downloads.

Sounds cool! I'm not getting to check out the Wii U til Christmas, so I don't have to make a final decision yet, but I'm leaning towards getting this over the releases available on disc.

I've put a few hours into Nano Assault Neo now. As a Super Stardust fan, I turned my nose right up when I started playing. I felt it was terribly mediocre. But now I starting to really have fun. It's basically Stardust with colliable scenery. A level times out when you kill 90% of enemies, when you have to rush to the exist against a timer. But you really want to kill everything for a bonus.

The scoring works like this from what I can tell.

• Multipliers for shooting lots of enemies at once. Killing multiple enemies also generates pick-ups (power-ups and the letters to make the word 'BONUS', Bubble Bobble style.
• End of stage bonus for lives left over and a multiplier based on hit accuracy.
• 100,000 bonus for 100% enemy clear.
• BONUS gets you an extra mini level where you can load up on credits.
• There's an end of level shop where you spend the credits on weapons, score multipliers and such.

It's quite a strategy shmup. Decisions about which enemies to kill and which to leave (so as to milk credits and make the post-90% against the clock clear-up as easy as possible), how to spend in the shop depending on your progress, and how to manipulate scenery give it something of a distinct flavour and some longevity.

It's not wonderful by any strecth, but fun enough to justify the pricetag for me.

Bought the 3DS d/l port of Nano Assault EX yesterday...awesome price for the taking. I see that it has support for the optional Nyko produced 3DS Circle Pad Pro setup (which is a mere $19.99 USD add-on for proper twin circular pad control layout/method). Sure has plently of extras compared to the earlier 3DS cart-based release of Nano Assault indeed.

Hold on there. Nintendo makes the Circle Pad Pro, not Nyko. Nyko did make a knockoff, the Nyko Power Grip, but I heard bad things. The original Circle Pad Pro was only available at Gamestop here in the US, but Nintendo just made the 3DS XL version available at store.nintendo.com for $19.99 + 5 dollars for standard shipping. I ordered one and it should be arriving soon.

Edit: It looks like the Nyko Power Grip was also discontinued, which is probably a good thing.
