Re: Kickstarter: Pier Solar HD (RPG)
Really would have wanted one of those Pier Solar themed Dreamcasts, but as usual I am too late to the party.
That said, as a former(?) DC fanboy
AND someone that was looking to buy the MD version before, this is a nobrainer for me.
Pledged $125 for a DC Collectors Edition.
Let's get this funded!!!

The only thing worse in gaming right now is the whole phone app craze, where you've got thousands of cheap, subpar games being churned out by the boatload and people are actually buying them (while complaining about the reasonable cost of the rare, actually professional game/port).Friendly wrote:Yep, just look at FEZ and the tasteless numbskulls who praised it to high heaven.trap15 wrote:The entire indie game scene.drauch wrote:Obviously a bunch of fools out there who are complacent with trash.
Looking at the sheer number of games listed for the iPhone on GameFAQS and seeing how 99.9% of them you'd never want to play makes me want to retch.

For some reason that conjured up images of Zoidberg eating out of a dumpster behind a fancy restaurant because he doesn't see the point of paying for the food.BareknuckleRoo wrote:

Goals reached!
Some interesting, not yet reached, goals are still up in the air.
10k for a director's cut and 25k for an android/ouya version. Wii U vrs. is ultimate 'stretch goal'.
Dreamcast version, along with really nice extras is secured!

Good thing about the DC version, even if it's still going to be in every way inferior to the PC version.

Head of Pier Solar was a guest on the All Gen Gamers podcast recently. Sounds like a really nice guy who is serious about doing his absolute best on whatever project he touches:

Since I obviously haven't played it yet, here are some (wiki) quotes and links.Skykid wrote:Is this game actually any good?
Gamefaqs reviewThe game was well received. Pier Solar's first magazine review was published by Spanish multiplatform game magazine Games Tribune in their January 2011 issue (published December 28, 2010), scoring 90%. It was Games Tribune's first review of a 16-bit game ever.[12] A preview article had already been published in the previous issue.[13] Dutch multiplatform game magazine Power Unlimited covered Pier Solar in their May 2011 issue, their first full-fledged review of a Sega Megadrive game since the late 1990s; it scored 90% and earned a Gold Award.
destructoid review
RPGFan
Though the game apparently has some small design flaws (see rpgfan review), but overall the reception has been quite good.
And who can pass up on a labour of love like this?

Re: Kickstarter: Pier Solar HD (RPG)
I gave the demo a spin, and then the version getting distributed with some version of MESS, unlike trap15 and co who shat on this before they even gave it a spin.
IMO it's a neat game. If it gets out on XBLA you'd be doing okay for a 800/1200 MSP purchase. Or better yet, buy the original cartridge if you have an MD and want to avoid the half-assed HD treatment.

Hope that's not directed at me, I just asked a simple question. There's plenty of chatter in the thread, but no info on whether or not the game is worth the spend.BPzeBanshee wrote:I gave the demo a spin, and then the version getting distributed with some version of MESS, unlike trap15 and co who shat on this before they even gave it a spin.

Re: Kickstarter: Pier Solar HD (RPG)
Not at all, you did indeed made a simple honest question, to which I answer that when this thing gets out to the markets it'll definitely be worth the spend. Sorry if it sounded too serious - Mainly I'm just exposing trap15's trollpost for what it is.Skykid wrote:Hope that's not directed at me, I just asked a simple question. Whether you contribute to the Kickstarter or not I leave that to you. We both know some are more cynical towards projects on Kickstarter than others which leads to personal preference on whether to spend money there for potentially better deal/bonuses, or wait for the finished product/get a guarantee. Personally, I'll be waiting for the XBLA release and giving it a trial because I don't buy anything these days without prior trial.

Re: Kickstarter: Pier Solar HD (RPG)
I'm not a huge RPG fan, but I've been hearing about this game for a few years. It's supposedly very professional. Like a lost Genesis/Megadrive game that was never released. If you're a fan of 16 bit RPGs I think you would be happy to buy it.Skykid wrote:Hope that's not directed at me, I just asked a simple question. I think the Megadrive carts are pretty fuckin pricey though.

*bump*
Less than 2K $ to go before final "stretch goal" is reached, a Wii U version.
With 41 hours to go it seems that brand new Wii U owners have another cool game to look forward for.
Myself added a pledge for an Ouya version too, since it deserves all the support it can get.
