What would be the best way to hook up a Dreamcast VGA box to this HD PVR 2? I'm guessing some sort of Component to VGA converter. Same question goes for the Xbox 360 VGA cable.

For DC you need a VGA to component transcoder. Works fine and you can record in 480p using the component breakout cable included with the HDPVR2. 360 via VGA is kinda silly. Either use HDMI (if you have a newer 360) or get a component cable instead.

Thanks for the input. The other two systems I wouldnt mind hooking up to it is the Saturn and PC Engine via composite. I heard you need a VCR/DVD player for any signal below 480i otherwise the end results will be stuttery video/audio. I just dont see a composite adapter for the HD PVR 2. Again it would have to be some sort of component to composite adapter.

With the multitude of systems you would like to record, either get another capture device or get a video processor as a hub. Ian is having some some sound problems with this setup though. There is no easy way to record Saturn or PCE on the HDPVR2.

I really hope that they improved that old HDPVR 1 box. I had lot of problems with it then I switched to a Colossus... but still the driver is never perfect ...

Does anyone played with an Elgato Gaming Capture HD ? The software looks much better than the Arcsoft software bundled with HDPVR and there is a very cool feature (input 1080p60 > output 1080p60, record @720p).

Also be aware, both HDPVR 2 and ELGATO currently does NOT support 5.1 audio recording, you MUST use 2.0. Most of us dont need this feature but to me it's a nice little thing to know :).

So far so good. I made a quick clip of Harmful Park upscaled to 720p last night (see below). The audio workaround trick is still going strong. Switch it off at the DVDO input, wait, switch it on. Job done.

I also received the ABT-102 this morning. Going to install that tonight and see how that works with deinterlacing and lag.

I was looking into getting the El Gato mainly because its powered by USB and records video at slightly higher quality over the HD PVR 2 but I didnt see if the El Gato could do 480P resolutions inputs.

From my experience + reviews, quality is the same with HDPVR2 and Elgato. I noticed that Elgato have a higher bitrate (30 Mb/s) but it's really hard to tell the difference (at least for me).

I just prefer the software on Elgato + it's a small device :). I found a nice little gadget that works with Elgato, it's an USB Foot Switch from http://www.scythe-usa.com/product/input ... etail.html. So yeah, you dont need to move your ass :).

and dont forget that they updated the software to support 1080p60 input. Capture up to 1080p30.

Probably a good thing for personal archiving or sharing the raw capture, but as soon as you upload it to YouTube (for example), YouTube goes and takes a big, loose, watery stool all over your video with an awful re-encode.
