Didn't play enough (busy yesterday) and barely made it. Really should've done a bit better, but at least now I'm confident I can progress in the game. Another video incoming provided I actually win again ._.

I actually made it to the stage 2 boss with 4 bombs (on my last life), which was enough to beat it with no risk involved. I also destroyed all of the letters on stage 3, but it only gave me a bomb.

The three credits I had time for resulted in this. Not too shabby. Player 2 is kinda fun. Sound off is a must.

Just bombspammed the hell outta the third boss, no regrets. Was playing blind through most of the fourth stage - I should've gotten to the boss actually, died rather clumsily against the second wave of the planes that dodge diagonally inwards.
If I play it just right, I can get the letters at the beginning of the game without using a bomb and P2 side. P1 side is easy with autofire.
Don't have tons of time to practice P2 side, which makes me sad, but this beats my old P1 highscore by a wide margin.

I decided to play one last credit and it JUST finished :/
deca - 1,878,270 - 6 - P1 - ash-build 0.144u4
Not sure if it would even change my position anyway, but just figured I might as well throw it in.

MAME Plus! v0.147 input (should work on older)
Vid
The version of MAME I was using caused the background to glitch after some of the boss fights. This should be a better example of my unattractive and needlessly risky playing style >_> Even then I made more mistakes than usual, because it was late and I was frustrated that I'd messed up an earlier, better credit. Possible highlights include no-missing up to stage 7, beating the stage 6 boss with only one bomb and somehow managing to fully clear every set of stage letters.

Re: TRP-STGT Week 4: Thunder Dragon 2
Pretty cool, thanks!
One thing jumps out at me right away, though - the method shown for killing the letters at the beginning is not completely efficient (although, if I understand correctly, time is not of great importance here). When there are only a couple letters, you should go over to their position, rather than sitting at the left hand side of the screen, because if they need to be flipped more than once there will not be enough time before they slip off the screen.
I also was under the impression that flipping letters once is the way to damage them, so no additional damage is incurred when the letter is flipping over. If that is so, the first sweep could go all the way from one side of the screen to the other, instead of stopping in the middle as shown here. Perhaps this is done to return to the letters on the far left (which disappear first) quickly, but in practice I would be more worried about needing to flip the far right side letters an additional time.
You also possibly give up a few points (if anything comes in after the four planes, and their medals, at the very end of the stage) by not having the first stage routes planned so that you consistently sweep from one side of the screen to another, leaving some popcorn onscreen. I'm impressed that you managed to get four planes to show up after the flamethrower boss though - I run through the stage very quickly but I only ever seem to get the first two to show up, at best. I want to time this to see if I really am as quick as I think I am.

Re: TRP-STGT Week 4: Thunder Dragon 2
This would be because I either never realised or had completely forgotten that the letters only flipped when shot Basically up to this point I would reset if I didn't get all the letters at the very start and then hope for the best later on. Getting them every time on this run was a fluke. Kinda lame, but now I can surely find a consistent way to do itEd Oscuro wrote:One thing jumps out at me right away, though - the method shown for killing the letters at the beginning is not completely efficient (although, if I understand correctly, time is not of great importance here). This is essentially laziness on my part, usually I can do stage 1 main in my sleep unless I mess up the missile ships.Ed Oscuro wrote:You also possibly give up a few points (if anything comes in after the four planes, and their medals, at the very end of the stage) by not having the first stage routes planned so that you consistently sweep from one side of the screen to another, leaving some popcorn onscreen.
