Hi everyone! Greetings from Bavaria!!

Post by Mr.Iff »

So, finally i decided to register. . .
I am not much around in forums, but i hope i'll stay tuned to this one.
Well, i don't care much about highscores and try to finish games without using bombs, hypers, etc. because i like the dodging and getting to the next stage. All the gadgets make the levels way more easy to finish (at least in my opinion). Does anyone share the same opinion?
Of course, for example, the second loops in the DDP series may seem impossible, but i am already happy for completing first loop. And i am pretty sturdy too, so with enough training i might do it anytime^^.
I got my X Box 360 recently modified and now i can play import games. And i got two SNES (JNTSC and PAL). On PC i sometime play Tohou 11 and 8 with a friend. Apart from that i don't really like the Touhou series (except the Beat em up spin-offs; they are great).
Its difficult to list my favourites.
On SNES i have: Jikkyou Oshaberi Parodius, Super R-Type (also got R-Type for Gameboy), Axelay, Dezaemon (still learning it..)
On X Box 360: Ikaruga, DDP DOJ, DDP RES, Deathsmiles, Akai Katana, Triggerheart Exelica, Mushihimesama Futari (my first danmaku! Bought for fifty bucks on vacation in france :)), Senko No Rondo DUO (great and interesting game), Zeit², Radiant Silvergun
I really love Ikaruga but i suck badly. Its scoring system is the only system i care for. If someone is good at keeping the chains up, it looks like art.
Oh, btw, if my english sucks, please excuse me.
I think that was enough from me for now.
So, what are you guys at? What games do you prefer? Could you suggest me one - two oldschool shooters?
Does anyone work with the "Shoot em up Kit" from tallstudios?
So, have a nice day / evening

Yeah, its kinda funny how different people percieve a city.
I think munich is a pretty decent city for a capital. But it is way too expensive to live there.

To my Mind - and this is coming from someone from the UK where we have much larger Towns and Cities - Munich is like a small Town. on the other Hand, Berlin feels like a real City to me. It's like London but a lot cleaner but still feels like a 'Town' in comparison. I have found that there is very little to actually do to occupy one's Self in Munich but there are lots and lots of Things to do in Berlin and Hamburg. Musically I find Munich limited whereas I can see absolutely every Band in Berlin and Hamburg then there's the Art and Exhibitions.

I do like the Technik-Museum on the Isar though - that U-Boot is well worth seeing along with the Semiconductor Section for IT/Engineering :)

What am I missing from my Experiences of Munich? Have I not seen the real Munich? I do like the Area near to the University though near to the Siegestor - very nice indeed.

I can walk around Berlin, London and Vienna and be impressed by all the Buildings, the History and the overall 'Character' - I didn't find much of that in Munich though - but the Isar Area was the best Part, I found.

I wish not to offend any of you Guys with my Opinions of Munich but perhaps you can help me to realise what it is that I'm missing here.

Regarding the buildings, munich got a great historic district, a fucking great townhall, castle Nymphenburg, a lot great museums beside the Technik-Museum (like Deutsches Museum, Museum Mensch & Natur, lots of Art-Museums; well, the Hunterian Museum in London overcomes them all XD. Such a great one. . .) The English Garden is wonderful too.
You might be right with the music topic, but if you search accurate, you will see bands from all grenes giving regular concerts in munich. Hell, sometimes there are even chiptune gigs in muc.
I think i like munich because it is smaller and more cozy. Bigger cities are way more louder, more smelly...
Maybe my view is just biased.
I dont know in what things you are interested, but you can find here nearly every subculture / art / whatever; you just have to look closer ;)
Indeed most of the people suck, but they suck in london / berlin too.
In my opinion you can feel in munich the same amount of history, as you do in greater cities.

Yes, I know of some Music goings-on and Art Activity but it's more prevalent in the other Cities.

I find Munich to be distinctly too small.

In Germany with each Region being fairly autonomous I think that it doesn't have a single Capital City - it's more like each Region/Sub-Region has its own Capital - Nürnberg is my local 'Capital' so to speak.

I could never consider Munich to be a Capital City though - it's way too small for a start. Berlin and Hamburg would be closer to that. I used to live in Cambridge in the UK and tbh Munich was closer to Cambridge in Size.

Indeed there's a lot of Alternate Art/Chip-Tune up in Berlin and many more Artists/Musicians living in Berlin - the Place is very much alive with Art - perhaps partially due to how inexpensive it is to live up in Berlin and the fantastic Public-Transport System.

The People are a lot nicer up in Berlin than in Munich, I find and tbh I have met the worst People in Munich having traveled fairly widely in Germany.

I agree entirely with your Opinion of London: it's the most dirty City I have ever spent any Time in - the Air is dirty and everyone looks 'dirty' and it costs a Fortune to 'exist' there - which is one Reason I refuse to work/live there myself.

With Munich being so small, I cannot agree that it's 'historically' on the same level as London, Berlin and Vienna - but as you have stated; you may be biased as we are all permitted to be :)
There are many Museums up in Berlin. I can understand that People may perceive Munich to be a base for some Organisations but I am inclined to believe that Berlin is a more fitting 'cultural Capital of Germany'. to my Mind Bavaria isn't really 'Germany' and it's quite different in Language, Attitude and indeed Culture.

I have not found any decent Arcades in Munich - has anyone else found any?

Yes, I use an Arcade in London down Tottenham Court Road called 'Casino Arcade'. I was there earlier in November but they only had Progear arashi there at the Time - I really wanted to play DOJ again :(

I have heard that there are Shmuppmeets around Saarland.

I have a few PCBs myself but I have no Cabinet. I use a 29", professional Monitor though and it looks cool :)

Pretty much so :) I went to Replay in the UK in October and we all just played a load of Shmups and older Games whilst talking about Retro-Gaming and 'Things from the 1980s' :D

I think that perhaps Shmuppers have Shmupmeets as it's a lot harder to find a decent Arcade these Days.

I suppose it would be possible to arrange a Shmupmeet in a City/Town near to where you live perhaps.

I tend to just play Shmups in the Arcade in London these Days. But I have my Collection at Home. It would be nice to hangout though as you just can't replicate that Experience you get when lots of Shmuppers get together.

The Atmosphere was really good at Replay these last couple of Years.

Thinking on: there is the Retrobörse in Rosenheim that occurs a few Times a Year. I have never been to it myself but you could investigate:

http://www.retroboerse.de/

It occurs several Times each Year in a different City/Town - the next will be Vienna.

Yeah, i know Retrobörse. Been there two times^^
I think its great and you can get a lot cool stuff there; a bit overprized in my opinion, but most people are really cool.
Also Gamescom, in cologne, was great regarding the Retro-Exhibition. Showed off my skills in DOJ XD

Yes, I found that the Prices were far to high at Replay and the Selection didn't any Titles that were Earth shattering.
I tend to avoid purchasing at Replay.

Did they have any Cabinets at Retrobörse or was it simply Consoles?

Do you read the German Magasine 'Retro' ? Often you can find out about Things that are going on by reading this ;)

I think that there's a Section on this Forum for 'Shmupmeets'. You could post there, perhaps.

I shall be moving up to Hamburg which is a shame because we could have played ibara and tatsujin-ou together as I have the PCBs. I use a Supergun.
