The Walking Dead - Telltale Game

Post by njiska »

Finally, after like seven months, Telltale Games has launched the fifth and final episode of The Walking Dead. I've always though highly of Telltale's work, barring Jurassic Park, but this game is on a whole other level. Possibly one of the best stories I've experienced in a long, long time. Has any one else here been playing? Anyone avoiding it due to the shitty, unrelated AMC series? I'd love to hear what other player's experiences were like.

For the curious I wrote a spoiler-free review of the season.

Dull stretched drama parts, new TV characters and situations are awful.

I have read the comics.

Season 1 = Great
Season 2 = 9 Episodes too long
Season 3 = Back to ok, but very up and down.

Honestly all most all of the hatred is derived from the BS of keeping shane alive for so long during the second series and the needless melodrama it created. Plus there were at least three episodes where nothing happened. At least the current season has righted itself by bringing in The Governor, but now that part of the story is so good that I get bored when it jumps back to rick. And yeah, I'd read some of the comics prior to the series. Up to around the prison I think.

I don't know, for me, they are doing it exactly how I would have wanted it, staying true enough to the feel of the comic, whilst mixing it up enough to keep people who read the comics guessing too.

So far loving this season!

I've also read the comics (till issue #103), and the TV series is much much worse. They fucked up lots of things, and what's new is pretty dumb (like the attempt to explain the zombie outbreak, something Kirkman was always against in the comic). Season 1 was pretty bad at the end, but season 2 completely killed any interest I had in watching it. Not killing that certain someone was one of the worst decisions they could make.

Hmmm, agree to disagree then.

I just finished part 5 of the game, that was a very solid story - I'd like to know what I could have changed in terms out the outcome, and the choice I make seemed to leave things open ended. Can't say more without spoilers :/ Apparently a season 2 is planned for next year.

There's been speculation as to whether season two will be next year or 2014. Frankly I wouldn't mind 2014 if they used the time well to rebuild the very aged Telltale Tool.

Season 2 was true rubbish, save for one or two episodes... I loved Ssn 1 enough to watch it all the way through. Gave me enough hushed conversations to last a lifetime (putting the worst aspects of "24" to shame). Season 1 & 3, however, have been spectacular. Season 3 especially... perhaps for killing off lots of dead-weight characters.
