What have I missed?

Post by Arvandor »

So... I haven't really lurked these forums much in the past... 2 or 3 years? I can't even remember for sure. Seems like Daifukatsu was still fresh, and Mushi2 had just come out for the XBOX360. I've done no "new" shmuping at all in the meanwhile, just playing my usual sporadic bits of Dodonpachi, ESPgaluda, and Jamestown.

So, what's up? What's new? How're the people who might possibly somehow remember me doing? What games are must try that I've missed?

Also hi!

I'm kind of meh about Touhou.

Are the Cave shmups region free like Mushi2 and ESPGaulda2 were? I may have to look into getting a 360, but... that won't be happening for many months at the earliest, still though.

And apparently I missed Ketsui coming to MAME? Wtf?

In the last 2 years the boards have been effectively taken over by anime avatars, n00bs with skills (as I like to call em), and price highjacking beyond belief.

As for games, 360 is where it's at, though some games are JPN region locked many are still region free and playable on US/EU consoles, some have even been published outside of japan.

Tonk allegedly scammed some $30,000 from rich neogeo collectors and is banished from the interwebz.

What, I missed that... give me the juicy details
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Besides the new MAME/360 Cave stuff I really recommend checking Crimzon Clover. Very impressive for a PC shmup. Solid scoring system and difficulties that play with slightly different mechanics.

I think it deserves a thread tbh, I only just found out myself from AO and went to NG.com to read in disbelief.

I still haven't ever played a touhou. That said, I feel like I am sorely missing out on Crimson Clover, from the videos I've seen it looks like the greatest game ever. Rayforce meets Cave, is that an accurate description?

I would have said the same about Cave, but that' because I'm not familiar with Rayforce.

Haha, well Rayforce is just about my favorite shmup of all time, but I've mostly been playing Cave and Raizing the last 5 years. Regardless, Crimson Clover seems like a must play title.

Check out some of the scoreboards for popular games. Some of the content there is bound to surprise you; namely: Futari (you're going to love this one), DOJ BL, Garegga, Ketsui, Galuda 2.

Fair enough. Aside from them you don't seem to like any other shooters unless it's Qute, ZUN or Konami anyway.

You also missed the STV drama. Check the "cutting out the middleman" thread in trading station. Good shit.

True, but the discussion has mostly gone away, since he's now banned here (and hopefully everywhere else too).

Yep, Rising Star distributed the Cave 360 shmup port of Akai Katana stateside earlier this year. It's priced at $29.99 brand new at Gamestop right now. Plus, you can play the PAL 360 port of Dodonpachi Resurrection (aka Dodonpachi Dai Fukkatsu) on a USA region 360 console.

The 2013 release of the much anticipated Dodonpachi SDOJ on the JPN region 360 will certainly be worth the wait indeed. Tried out the SH-3 powered DDP-SDOJ PCB at the recent 2012 California Extreme show was legendary (followed by Dodonpachi DOJ BL PCB & Dodonpachi DFK version 1.5 PCB) during the two day CAX event. So to be able to play three different DDP games was another first for a CAX show.
