Question about Darius Gaiden in Taito Memories Vol. 1
OK, so I admit it...I downloaded Taito Memories Vol. 1. But I did so because I had no idea what to expect from the comp (I love most comps but have been disappointed before) and wanted to try it before I imported it. Now I'm going to be ordering it from YesAsia because it kicks more ass than I thought it possibly could. I don't mind the non-tate, upscaled graphics because--at least to me--there doesn't seem to be that much distortion, and the sheer number of quality games outweighs that anyway. I went to bed waaaaaay too late last night...
There's just one thing I'm worried about: Darius Gaiden is broken. Objects--shots, enemies, basically anything that moves--constantly disappear from the screen, making it completely unplayable.
I searched the board for discussion on this, but didn't find any, which leads me to believe that it's something on my end. Which is more likely: the burned copy of the game, or my Magic 3 modchip? Or is it something else? If the game was really broken I would think there'd have been more complaining. Any ideas?

Is it just me or is there a bit of a lag in the controls with Taito Memories vol 1 Darius Gaiden? I played it a while back (real copy) with the Godly Saturn PS2 pad and noticed it didn't play as good as the Saturn version. I kept dying because the ship would't move the exact same moment I'd press the pad to move, unlike the Saturn one. Anyone else experience this?

Finally got around to playing Darius Gaiden for the Godly Sega Saturn. And yes, the Saturn version controls much, MUCH better than the Taito Memories version. Super crisp, super precise controls on the Saturn versus Memories' little laggy, retarded one. If you have the ability to, try them both out. Not only does the Saturn win in controls, but check out the line scrolling effects on upper second stage. If the Memories is arcade perfect complete with the less than perfect control, then screw the arcade version.

No flicker here, no control issues either (had both the arcade and Saturn before this). Late revision old-style JP console, unmodded.

Eh
I'll hold onto the Saturn rev, since it's the only one I can one-life

I would challenge that as my modded PS2 has lasted me for many a year without any problems whatsoever. Hassling with swaptricks is a bother when I can just throw any disc in and it works right away. Modding is more expensive, of course, but I think it's well worth it.Zweihander wrote:Recommendation -- get SwapMagic. SwapMagic > modchips.
Also, imported console > * is only true when you either play games from that region alone or have enough money to buy a seperate console for each region you care about and have enough space to house them all.

Oh, and no broken Darius Gaiden here. Everything works like a charm.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.
