PS4... the RPG

Post by Strider77 »

LAME!! I hope this is not true.

•PS4 will not support used games, games need to be registered to PSN account
•There will be a protection scheme in the system, in the form of online pass or something similar
•PS4 will not be backward compatible with PS3 games
•Classic games will be available via Cloud gaming, powered by Gaikai

Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

I heard PS4 has already been hacked and CFW is in the works. Doesn't look good for Sony

Why am I not surprised?
Bought PS2 and Wii with backwards compatibility in mind, but after the PS3 misadventure, I'm almost glad Sony let it go.

PS4 is also PC hardware.

Have fun, faggots. :D

Most of those rumors are old.

PS4 not being backwards compatible with the PS3 is a given unless it comes equipped with the latter`s parts. No way it can hope to emulate the PS3 through software.

If it comes to that, then I'll stick with the PS3. Plenty of games to keep me busy for a long time.

That's what I'm doing w/ the PS2! Haha. I have the PS3, but I haven't bought any games for it for ages.

I expect the first one is being considered but that they will cave to the outcry and not include it. Especially if MS doesn't have it. They are going to watch each other on that one.

The rest is plausible - the last two being dead certs.

This two will guarantee that I don't buy one. I don't think this will happen, personally. I also heard that they want to make 60fps 1080P the standard for all games. Yeah, right. If anything, I expect games to perform worse. It's just a hunch. I've been playing some PS3 games with really bad framerates lately. A lot of PS2 games perform a lot better.

ZoE HD Collection? :P Still not sure whether to snag the slightly better-running 360 version or hope they patch the PS3 one like they did with the Silent Hill collection...or just skip it.

I heard the PS4 will rape your mother and murder your father, then upload the video to YouTube and post a link on your Twitter feed and Facebook wall.

Then it will overheat with a YLOD error.

PSX Vita: Slightly more popular than Color TV-Game system. Almost as successful as the Wii U.

I devoted a piece of my soul to the first game in the series (well, all of them, but mainly the first). It was awesome. I liked the soundtrack better, too. I think you're too young for that shit though.

I have never played the original Phantasy Star or heard the music but I know you're wrong and PS4 is the best.

I never owned a Master System, but would have probably loved the shit out of it. I was hella obsessed with Dragon Warrior at 8, my first exposure to the planing+grindothon genre..

That AVGN where he talks about how he pined for a non-crap Godzilla game when he was a kid, and the Japan-only releases and then the passable ones that came out later.. that really captures the pathos of our generation. Today, we have an embarrassment of riches to the point we have to pass up even giving games we might like a shot.

Those poor bastards who had to grow up in the dark ages with the 2600 though. My sympathy overflows for them..

Phantasy Star 1 is cool - its music is classic PSG goodness, and very much traditional fantasy rpg in tone.

Phantasy Star IV is 90s x-treme heavy metal as all fuck, and is awesome for it.

Phantasy Star II and III, well, you can more or less skip.

Earlier this year I started playing Phantasy Star II but I ended up giving up because the game can be so vague about what you've got to do next that I was having to consult help all the time. Like the part before I gave up involved finding the hidden entrance to something that you didn't have a clue where it was, If I hadn't looked on the net to see that you have to go to a hidden part of a village and pass through a seemingly solid object to get to the next place I would never have found it in a million years.

Then after that I soon got stuck again so I just left it at that. If the game had been a bit less hard going I probably would seen it through to the end, oh well..

Not sure about PSII or III, but gamefaqs made some games better (Super Metroid) and some other games - playable at last (Another World). I heard cool stories about Somebody™ out there finishing either just like that, but I didn't even want to be this kind of cool.

You shouldn't need a guide to get through Super Metroid. Maybe if you're going for 100% or something, but even then surely the fun is in the exploring.

Games that don't give you a clear idea of what to do next (e.g. Castlevania II) are a pet peeve of mine, since consulting a guide for help feels like cheating and takes away all the satisfaction for me.

I played through that thing blind. I missed the charge-up powerup. Didn't know it even existed. You know, that thing hidden in some floor somewhere which you need if you want to damage a boss after you run out of missiles.

Fun fact: that underwater boss thing? The game gives you juuuust enough missiles to kill his ass. Don't miss. Have fun losing a few hours of your life.

This Phantasy Star 4 thread inspired me to spend the whole day playing Phantasy Star 1. It's like bashing my head against a brick wall, but I think I like it regardless.
