What happened to Ceph? I haven`t seen him for years.
The mods put him in time out for a month or so but he never bothered to come back... he and his 2D gaming forum were banished and the galaxy was at peace. To be honest I was suspicious that Elixir was Ceph...
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

I thought Elixir is from New Zealand while Ceph is from Germany and got a bit too big for his boots, the way I saw it.

Anyway, to continue being off-topic, can't some of you guys just lay off? Yea some of the things Friendly says IMO come close to astroturfing, but I can see how it can be frustrating when the guy has actually had both positive comments about other systems/companies as well as criticism for PS3/Sony that his antagonists either haven't seen or have chosen to ignore. Friendly's stance is no better or worse than anybody else with a preference, but he is certainly less abrasive than others with his opinion.

Although personally I am not too interested in the original topic of numbers shipped, other topics such as hardware capabilities surfaced here which I found worthwhile to read.

I'm on both sides of the fence here. It's a nice time to own a PS3, but geez the console prices still suck quite hard. I don't think there is a single bundle retailing below $240. For 6-year-old tech. If this was a PC GPU it would cost $20 by now.

I occasionally still lurk here and check out what's new. After the public spanking I got by the mods for speaking my mind I kind of lost interest; I also realized then that there was little point in arguing about the nature of reality in an obscure internet forum all the time and that it wouldn't make the world a better place.
Anyway, being a member of this community was a worthwhile experience, and I met a few pretty cool people here (some of whom I'm still in touch with).

@gct
Hey, that's not very nice. I don't think we've ever met, you registered long after I left. (And you obviously saw it wrong.) :P

@Strider77
Dude, it's been what, 4 years since I posted here and you are still pissed at me? I am sorry for whatever I did to you. Please get over it and let bigons be bigons.
And no, I am not Elixir. I have never collected dolls, I mean figures, and I don't think I was ever as hostile.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!BEHOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He returns!!!

Nope.. not pissed. It was just the pro sony thing that made me think of it. Well that and you were pretty well known for... being displeased with alot of things gaming wise.

Let me put it this way... ever watch a TV show with a character you love to hate or hate to love.

Hi Ceph. I posted for many years under another handle. It looks like you've mellowed out so I should also apologize for my comment. No hard feelings. Group hug!

I'm actually quite pro Sony. I love my 360 also but I use my PS3 far more now. I don't really have a bias. I like the Blu ray cases more so if they are the same I go that way.

And to be honest... I actually prefer the dual shock. It's d pad is not useless and if a game requires you to hold two triggers down on the same side or the top one/ones... it's far easier on the dual shock. Holding those bumpers down is a bitch after awhile. I don't like the triggers on the PS3 but I bought these little snap on triggers that are tasteful and look stock... so now I have no complaints.

But I am NOT saying I have beef with the 360 controller really. I am not one to cry over controllers. It's d pad sucks is all.

I don't hate Sony, just Sony PR. But the case is closed on this one. Moderator intervention very sensibly addressed the shilling issue (which is patently obvious) and Friendly now knows where he stands going forward.

What's up dude. What happened with the 2D gaming forum? Last time I checked it was full of spam. You should clean it up and get it back on track.

Ooh so even the mods got tired of being a free billboard? Good.

Thread title and last post says it all really.

There are encompassing anti-spam regulations in all forums, no reason why it wouldn't apply here too. Whether or not that means it will stop being an off-topic proliferated by results from a Google RSS Reader remains to be seen.

So does this mean that his threads will now keep the same title instead of changing every other post to reflect some new criticism? And I guess the anti-spam rule is a fair way to address the issues with him.

That's actually an informative thread.

How many PS3s Sony sold is irrelevant.

That's really all we were asking for: a tidier off-topic.
Besides, it wasn't doing anyone any good, it just invited a tirade of trolling and bullshit responses that anyone not on a Sony patronage would have gotten the message from much earlier on.

There could almost be two. Non-shmups games and totally off topic. Not a deal break this way though, obviously.

There seems to be some confusion about the matter, so let me explain:

Friendly's Sony threads don't bother me all that much. But when he posted this totally useful and needed thread something snapped and I went MAD DRUNK WITH POWER and removed his access to most of the forum, leaving him only the bare essentials with High Scores and Strategy. This is a temporary thing of course, but I hoped maybe he'd take the chance to play some games in the meantime.

See, though the Sony threads are kind of...let's go with "abrasive", at least they were somewhat game-related. Considering this is a video game forum, that's a good thing, they're topical even if not directly about the forum's main focus. What I am getting tired of is seeing people treat this place as their own personal Facebook wall: "This is what I'm drinking right now! I don't like these things!" etc. while posting very little relating to shmups or even games in general. It's sad to see the forum be that way, there's so much noise nowadays, not enough signal.

Did I abuse my admin powers with this? Yes I did. Guilty as charged. For that, I apologize. But I'll take the blame of being called a nazi admin if it means somebody will post something interesting and (hopefully) game-related instead of just noise.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

Well the honesty and information is certainly appreciated. And to be fair, some of the threads like "What I'm drinking now" are nice from time to time as a means of community building. Little things that annoy you is a pretty popular thread for that reason.

I mean, it is the off topic portion of the forum. Most forums have a place to "let off steam" or just bullshit about whatever. I don't think it really should need to be relevant to games. Maybe we need a "non-shmup games" portion of the site? Everyone would win: those who don't want to sift through the meandering and chit chat don't half to, and those who feel like just shooting the shit feel like they are welcome to without annoying others. I feel like it's a great forum to talk about games in general, as well as other things that interest you or what's in the news. Seems like there is a lot of turmoil lately between what is "okay" to post in the off topic, and what is not.

mmhm, I agree with drauch. I thought off topic was a "talk about pretty much anything kinda place". BUT I also agree with ghegs in that sometimes the off topic section becomes like twitter

i hate twitter

I do think having a "general gaming" sub-forum is long overdue. More work for the mods, but that way you can keep the good, relevant gaming threads all in one place and the crappy, useless ones in another place. Separate the noise from the signal, in Ghegs' words.

With the hourly RSS feed copy pasting, I think his consoles are probably under a film of dust. I did suspect at one point that he might be a very advanced Sony controlled spambot. Anyway, smart call, no wonder it's been so chilled for the last 24 hours.
See, though the Sony threads are kind of...let's go with "abrasive", at least they were somewhat game-related.
Abrasive is probably the right word, but they wouldn't be if they weren't so obviously tainted with some kind of insane marketing agenda. I'm all for off-topic variety (bar Trap threads), so "I'm Drunk" and other random stuff makes it a colourful place IMO.
Sony PR, on the other hand, is as dull as it sounds.

Nice. Maybe after selling another 70 million PS3's they'll be upgraded to -BB.
