Is there really an Earth Defense Force 2?

I heard a rumor that there is one and it's not actually a 2D shoot-em-up. True?

Earth Defense Force 2 is a recent PS2 release in Japan. The Japanese title is Simple 2000 Vol. 81: The Chikyuu Boeigun 2. It's a third-person action shooter that has nothing to do with that iffy old Jaleco shmup. As such it's also off-topic for this board.

Absolutely fantastic game, though. It's shockingly fun. I highly recommend importing it.

The Earth Defence Froce name is simply a translation of the original japanese titles Simple 2000 Series vol.31: The Chikyuu Boueigun and Simple 2000 Series Vol. 81: The Chikyuu Boeigun 2. BTW, the first game was released in Europe as Monster Attack.
