JAMMA capture issues

Post by rivals »

I didn't see a thread for generic capture/stream related questions, if I missed one please point me to it and I'll close this down and post in there.

A few weeks ago I picked up a Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle Thunderbolt, and I've gotten it to work great with PS3 and 360. Next thing I want to do is capture from JAMMA so I picked up a JROK encoder and soldered the power and RGB etc to a JAMMA passthrough fingerboard.

I'm using windows 7 and in the Blackmagic control panel I set the input to component (I lack an s-vid for now so I'm trying component), but in Blackmagic Media Express I can't get anything to show up. For the project video format I've tested all of the non-HD settings, they all just give me a blue screen except PAL progressive which gives me a black screen.

I'm assuming it has something to do with the card syncing with the output since the blackmagic intensity seems to be really picky about that. Does anyone have experience with this or could give me some advice? Thanks in advance.

BMDs can't sync to progressive 15khz signals, just interlaced ones.
BMDs can't sync to non standard 15khz resolutions.
BMDs can't sync to non standard refresh rates.

In other words, you need a video processor as an interface which outputs a 100% perfect 720p59.940Hz timing.

Ahhh, disappointing. Do you know if there are external capture cards that can handle both HD and handle 240p well?

No, there are not.

Get a video processor as a hub and interface. $150.

Thanks for the help! Would you mind pointing me to an example of one that would work? I'm assuming I'd be looking at something like the XRGB? I know there are a few of them so I should start researching the differences.
