This is a shmup made by me

I've finished it around 2 years ago, but never made a site for it (I am just too lazy).

I know some people here have played it before... but as many people havent, here I tell where you can download it:

Wow, that was actually kinda fun. ^^ I love the "my dog plays better than you" sense of humor, and the Einhander scoring system. How did you make this, what program, and would you mind if I borrowed the source code for basic gameplay mechanics?

Btw, this'll probably be whisked away to Development anytime soon. :wink:

It was made in Game Maker, version 4.

The Source Code is such a big mess, I dont think it would be helpful at all. :D

Ahh.. by source code, I mean just the very basics of moving about and shooting --- for Christ's sake, I can't even make my game's ship move diagonally or have a decent limiter on auto-fire... plz help? ^^;; I just need help programming the ship's basic movement and autofire... @___@ Tried for 3 hours straight, it's 6:32 AM now.. *sleeps*

I've been in fault with you and Herr Schatten. The development of Megaship has been halted for too long. It was not only going to have great music, but also some great gfx too :) . Shame the programming was so sloppy, hehe :)

I want to get back to it and finish it, but I always get in some trouble or I lack free time to do it.

I havent forgotten, still is a projetct thats important for me, I just need to get some time and fix my damn computer.

Oh, and yes, of course I am inspired by Compile :). But whats really interesting is that my biggest inspiration did not come from Compile, but from an obscure MSX game called "Hype". This is one of the greatest oldschool shmups ever, and its very unknown (Even by normal MSX users). Space Disorder development begun as a remake of Hype... at some point I felt stupid of doing the same thing over again, and just went and made my own shmup.

But if you ever play Hype, you will see Space Disorder has a LOT in common with it.

Hehe! the first screen with the lenzflare was a bit shocking. but the game itself was fun. I even got heckled 'man, you can't be that stupid' :-) I like that you made such a variety of content.

I had some problems with the sound, it was constantly clipping.. could be that the volume was beyond my soundcards clean range or some other incompability.

I'm also using gamemaker for the shmup i'm making. I've been at it pretty intensely, so I've come to know GM-programming pretty good. If anyone wants to ask GM/Shmup specific questions we could also discuss them in the dev. section of the forum. There's also a few more of us there using GM so it could become something..

Did anyone who played reached at least the 1st boss?

About the sound.. I have no idea, this is the final version of Space Disorder... I dont have any intention to go back to that (even more because I used GM FOUR to do it... its so ancient now! :) ). I had tested it a lot, and never saw any sound problems.. :(

Hi Shatterhand,

I played your game some, and it's pretty fun. I just have one small request, could you post a picture of a bullet? I'm sure they're there, but I am having some difficulty seeing them.

I'm exaggerating, of course. :wink: But I did have a lot of trouble seeing bullets in the first few stages. Visibility is ok later on, somehow, when there are more bullets around. I got as far as stage 11 after a few tries, died when I decided to try milking a splitting yellow thing. I'm still not used to the reduced hit zone just for powerups.

I got no sound once when I started clicking different windows during the startup sequence, but it worked fine if I didn't touch anything.

Really? The bullets should be easy to see... maybe your screen is too dark or something ?

Michiyo, pressing F1 in the title screen brings a help screen.

Like I said, I really wont change this game now. I am working in another shmup (With Andi doing the music and Herr Schatten doing the GFX), but the work on this is already late by... oohh. like 2 years now? :D

No worries. A German saying goes "Gut Ding will Weile haben." I don't know the English equivalent, but it means that good things take time to finish.

At least for me there's light at the end of the tunnel. The company I work for will move in December, so instead of needing more than one hour to get to my workplace (and another hour to get back home in the evening) I will be there and back in like 10 minutes. I plan to put most of the new-won extra sparetime into finishing the graphics for our project. (And maybe redoing some of the existing ones.)

I already had some additional ideas I want to hear your opinion on. I'll mail them to you soon.

just played it and got into the boss on level 5. and i love how the game taunts me... its distracting, but in a good way. its like the DDR announcer calling out, "You're making me sad!"

again very nice work, the intensity level certainly does rise. i can't wait till i can play it at home with a controller. the keyboard doesn't work well.

At that point I figured the game is just not going to end, so I took my hands off the keyboard and let my remaining lives wither away. Which took a while.

Mate, you are going to kill yourself or something.
That was actually the last stage (Stage 45, right?). At the end of this stage there's the final boss, then an (very humble) ending sequence. Then the 2nd loop issues (Heh... there are infinite loops anyway, it just gets harder and harder... it stops getting harder at level 120)

I know the game is too long, but thats also my homage to Compile :D .


Did you get that far WITHOUT cheating? Congratulations. I must admit I'd believe most people wouldnt manage to get that far.

Figures. I play the game for that long only to quit on the "last" level. I did see the boss while waiting for the extra lives to run out, but since it was just an older boss re-visited (wasn't it?) I thought the game would just go and on...which it does, but it would've been nice to get the closure.

But I am NOT doing that again just for the ending :D

No cheating of course, but there's the possibility that my laptop, not being of the most powerful sort, might have given me an unfair advantage by running the game at a slightly lower speed. It's hard for me to tell, since some doujin and Mame games run at full speed and some are slowed down considerably. But even a 10% slowdown (which I wouldn't be able to spot due to not having played the game before) would be beneficial. Ah well.

Yes, after that boss that is just like an older boss, the true final boss shows up.

But did you enjoy the game at least? :)

Well, I'm not that big of a Compile fan. ;) I like short levels. Because the game's so long I doubt I'll be playing it again, especially since it was rather easy. The different ways to accumulate score was nice. The engine is pretty good, though the bullets could stand out a bit more. At times I would get three extra lives in a matter of minutes (from score, coins and pick-ups), but I guess having plenty of lives is another nod towards Compile.
