Bizarre "25 GAMES" Plug And Play - with Recca bootegs?

Post by renardqueenston »

here's a video of the device in action: http://youtu.be/4LjLaBFWaAw

i'll just copy+paste my YouTube upload description, it covers it best:
sorry about the lack of proper capture device. tried my best to get a decent video from my SD1100.

a bizarre piece of work i picked up from a Goodwill last year some time. what's particularly intriguing about this Nintendo-on-a-chip-based P&P is that several of the games aren't just quick-and-dirty obviously-unlicensed games, but instead fairly competent hacks and adaptations of other titles.

in particular, at least 3 of the shooting games on the device use the fantastic Famicom title "RECCA" as their base, whether it just be graphically, or in the case of the third game shown in this video, using the game's base code pretty much in full and doing its own thing with it.

also included are small sections extracted from other games. my favorite is "FISH CATCHER", which is a minigame extracted from Panic Restaurant.

i really dig this thing. i can't find any kind of product number on it and haven't opened it up to investigate yet, but i'll be sure to do so eventually. it's a surprisingly competently made bunch of software, even if it is just pirates, hacks, and ripoffs. a good time burner with a certain charm about it.

if anybody has any more information about this thing, please, post it in the comments!
thought you guys might get a kick outta this thing!

I recall Big 5 Sporting Goods selling such knock-off gaming controllers with XX-amount of games installed on it a few years back but with a completely different overall color scheme/layout -- they came with a MSRP of $24.99 back in the day. This particular All-in-One gaming controller seems to fit the bill alrighty.

I'd love to see a dump of the games on it. Definitely interesting.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

Oh wow, would be great to be able to play these~!

Summer Festival '92 RECCA is a great Famicom game to use as base for other Famicom shmups. :3

I wonder if they aren't already available in your local ROM library's stacks.

It might not be in GoodNES but some searches for ROMhackers might turn them up.

Interestingly, at least Aero Engine and Last Cabra have been available in other plug 'n play devices as well - I made a video back in 2008 that have 'em.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.
