No idea about PC, but there are a few for Xbox360 that do that. Immediately comes to mind: Ikaruga, Radiant Silvergun.

Well, for emulation you can play MAME games in multiplayer online with Kaillera, but I haven't done that in a long time, I think it was a build called Mame Plus Plus, this is before GGPO came out..

Can games already laggy by design (Dungeon Explorer) possibly work online without any extra lag? Would be some hack solution rather than emulation, but is it possible at all?
I don't expect any ultimate answer (knowing all too well that it depends why lag is there to boot).

I remember there's once a shmup MMO listed in Shoot the Core database, can't remember the name though.

Well, unless if you count this as one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOaTGny3 ... re=related

Speaking of, I just remember that Beat Hazard should have multiplayer (and LAN IIRC) as well.

Okay, I've found it: (taken from the remains of STC/now ShmupsWiki Shoot the Core project)
Title:"VALKYRIE SKY"
Description: Hybrid of MMO with STG levels. Excellent game if you are an MMO fan
Might want google it yourself but it appears to be another Korean MMO.

And I don't know whether it works or not, but there's something that called Nemesis Online (fanmade, obviously)

haha i should of mentioned it in the first post, anyway afaik Valkyrie Sky is long dead ;/ cherry games or whatever had the publishing rights over here or atleast the us or sea, no matter - afaik the korean company who made it died - or was sued or something and so the game went offline too, somehting like that.

Nemesis however looks really cool! i will check it out and update main post asap.

Why would you limit yourself so much? Go and fire supercade, you can play Twinkle Star Sprites and several other shooters in there.

OpenTyrian allows for multiplayer via LAN but you have to specifically launch it with the appropriate settings via commandline.

I'd love to, but afaik and last time i checked it is illegal to do so if you dont own the pcb or atleast some other version of the game for a console or whatnot, which i clearly do not own. That is why i am limiting myself to what is available legally.

Ofcourse if i am wrong about this, i am so going to go for all those emulators - enlighten me if i am wrong, seriously -> please guys, i'd love to be wrong on this subject - since i know about Twinkle Star Sprites and i would really love to play it. :D

If you want to be fair and square at all cost, you're likely to remain pretty lonesome there. The gaping hole arcades left has yet to be filled really. (Unless I just fail to see where it's at right now.)
What you need to understand is that netplaying communities used to be as secluded as the arcade crowd (in a nutshell, the areas where PCs ruled supreme are not the ones where arcades did), and no, XBLA is not enough to merge them into one.

Sorry, i did not really understand a word of what you are trying to tell me mate, - better said what it has to do with Online Multiplayer shmups wtf? I mean if i wanted to play some arcade shmups locally with my friends i would just do so (one of em still has a neo geo etc.) So what is it you're trying to say? It's really smashing my brains lol, i'm looking for ONLINE multiplayer shmups to play over the Internet with friends who live elsewhere and maybe even random people... Please rephrase for a weirdo like me, if i got it wrong - whatever you was going to say :D

No offense btw, i just want to understand you oO

People don't make online shmups because online is not where people seek shmups.

Thanks for rephrasing! I do not think that is completley true though, alot of people loved
Valkyrie Sky (Valklied Saga) and alot of people are looking forward to MirrorWar (which is btw the exact kind of shmup i am looking for - though any online multiplayer is/would be nice)

TouHou Phantasmorgia has an Online Vs. mode. That said requires a decent connection on both sides for it to work properly though.

Those two have pretty terrible netcode, at least rsgun which is unplayable even with connections that should be good.

Strania works really well online (and is a fun game to coop anyway), I think there was at least one other 360 shmup with decent online but can't remember what it was

Please do not use this Thread for useless spam...

1.) trap15 obviously was unable to read the main post... so that in intself was useless spam already this Thread is about PC Only. Sorry but please use one of the existing Threads or open your own if it has anything other to do than PC and native Online Multiplayer.

2.) You just replied to what he said, contributing absolutley nothing to this thread (just like him), could you not have just pm'ed him? Please consider to do so in future my friend, keep this Thread clean please.

Astoundingly, Aegis Wing has really good netcode... it's probably about the only competent thing the game can claim (and it supports up to 4 players simultaneously). R-Type Dimensions also supports on-line co-op play, but the 'lucky' individual who isn't the host will be plagued with ridiculous lag (upwards of half a second or more!).
