Solid State Survivor v6.5 is out

Post by BPzeBanshee »

The main change being (from Google Translate of readme):
[Update History]
2012/07/11 Ver6.5 Windows VISTA / Windows 7においてInternet Explorerのバージョンによって画像ファイルが上手く表示出来なかったのを修正Modify the image file could not display well in some versions of Internet Explorer 7 2012/07/11 Ver6.5 Windows VISTA / Windows
Windows VISTA / Windows 7においてウインドウモード時、右上の×ボタンを押しても終了しなかったのを修正Fix did not end when the window mode, even if you press the button in the upper right-hand corner in × 7 Windows VISTA / Windows
So for those who got white screens before this will fix it. I know because I just found it then and have a computer that had the issue with the previous release.

Website (and download link): http://www.geocities.jp/sp1_ssr/s3.htm

I swear it loads faster than the last release too. Maybe there's performance improvements.

He's actually working on updating it still? Cool. It's a pretty cool little Dodonpachi-esque doujin that's fairly newbie friendly if you enable the autobomb feature.

Trust me, this shits all over that silly 70s band (although some people who don't like Megadrive-style music on this forum might disagree, I personally think the game's music is great).

As far as I can tell development for the game is more or less 'finished'. He only updated this because some other guy developing programs with the Hot Soup Processor (IDE that this game was made in) encountered the same problem and actually figured out how to fix it, so he bounced off that.

As for the greyed-out replays, I found this: http://ktstg.blog.shinobi.jp/Search/2/? ... C%E3%82%A4

Looks like it got broken somehow in v6.3 or earlier and he greyed out the whole option entirely until he figured out how to fix it.....and then gave up. Odd considering some of his other projects on his website have replays and they seem to be fine, and they display the random seed on the HUD so it's not like this guy doesn't know what he's doing. I reckon this is probably the 'final' version until something else that's gamebreaking comes up.

On the bright side though, if anyone can speak to him in Japanese he's got quite a lot of forms of contact. Twitter, YouTube, some message board on his website, the blog, and email. The website's quite interesting as it has other projects including a DSi shmup and arrange music remixes of stuff from Recca, Battle Garegga and two from his own game.

Shame there's no replay option. Means recording runs needs to be done live since VirtualDub doesn't seem to like recording fullscreen (and playing a shmup windowed sucks). :(

The spinning blocks before boss fights now make a distinct pinging sound when you shoot them.

They always made the pinging sound. I notice they don't in your video (or I can't hear it very well) but they always did for me and were quite distinct. You can *just* hear it over this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IGO0frSU ... page#t=47s

And VirtualDub should handle fullscreen fine, but the interface for screen capture isn't the most friendly. CamStudio (the open-source one) tends to be pretty damn good these days but I have no idea how good it is for performance.

Yeah, the whole time I was playing/recording the previous version I've never heard that pinging sound ever. Very odd.

The spinning blocks are references to the Bacuras in Xevious, by the way.

I'm glad someone other than me knew that. I think Xevious would've been one of the earliest shmups I played after the Raiden games....

If anyone noticed a performance increase from this release let me know.

What shmups do you think YMO's music would best fit in?
