There has actually been a new development in recent months, and it is now possible to boot PS1 discs (and backups) if you have a PS3 with custom firmware (CFW). The game runs fine on ANY PS3 with CFW (no matter if slim or fat, no matter which region).

I've played it on a stock NTSCJ PSOne, didn't have any issues. All three games booted and ran without problems. It seems this particular disc really doesn't like to leave its native system/region.

Thanks! I've played it on a chipped US PS1 with no problem. So now it's either the swap-disc or the US region + PSOne causing the problem. Has anyone successfully used a swap-disc on a PS1 with this game? I'm starting to think it's the disc.
