Absolutely. Started to really dig it a few days ago, the random drops are still aggravating but you feel much less crippled with the GE-22, even when you have a lower firepower level.

Go for it. It will probably not be on sale for a while after this. It has its faults. But who knows, maybe that future patch will significantly change the gameplay. . . or not.

Well, the specials through that app pretty much tend to last a week and seem to change on Tuesdays. So I'll have plenty of time to make a choice on the matter.

Has anyone noticed the leaderboards are a bit buggy?
I just 1CCed arcade hard (no continues) with 440 M and the score didn't show up there. It was at a previous 399 M score.

But is this game even worth 800 points?
I think the game sucks. So, no.

Game is befinitely bugged.
I thought I had used the restart function for the credit above and maybe that could be the reason for the lack of update on the leaderboards, so I did it again from the start screen.
Got a higher score but no update on the leaderboards.

That's disappointing to say the least. :(

That's really unfortunate. I haven't been able to connect to XBL for a while so I haven't run into that, but it's especially painful considering the leaderboard is the only scoreboard there is.

I scored an interview with Mr Horvath (Business Development Director at Prior Games) a few weeks ago. Unfortunately however, I was really busy - travelling - and haven't been able to fully transcribe the interview as yet. I should have it up tonight at some point.

Any news on the Vita port? I'm only interested because G-Rev is involved. Does he talk about it in the interview?

Same. Thinking about getting a Vita and this is on my want list for the platform.

So apparently appeasing casual audiences and actual shmup fans is technically impossible.

I call bullshit, but at least it's an actual statement instead of what we saw in this earlier on. I'll give them some credit for bothering to go multi-platform because their logic on that seems quite sound.

We obviously analysed the market, and Sine Mora is out on XBLA, but it is also coming out on PSN, PS Vita, as well as PC – in a month.
The PC version is news to me. I'm actually really into the idea, I like shmupping on my PC.

Also my laptop gets internet, which is a neat feature.

excited for the new title as well

Of course not. Look at R-Type, Raiden, Dodonpachi, Deathsmiles, Jamestown and Ikaruga. (And to a lesser extent, Radiant Silvergun, which is adored by the masses more for its cult legacy than actual gameplay.) It just takes actual skill, talent and vision to pull off. Things the Sine Mora developers have little of.

I feel that Under Defeat may also be lucky enough to receive a warm reception from casual players and the mainstream press upon its Western release, aside from all the inevitable bitching about "why isn't this a $10 XBLA/PSN download."

Glad we agree on something here - as I said, I think they're talking smack, but they are talking.

Under Defeat actually doesn't look like my cup of tea but it's certainly one I'm keeping an eye on. Probably one I'm not going to make the effort to import though (Rising Star so far has been unable to get their last two releases to Australia, so import or a non-guaranteed later GoD release is the only way to go). Still better than Sine Mora.

Believe it or not i actually saw a preowned akai katana at ebgames yesterday.

No idea how it got here though, I assume they imported and beat the game in 30 minutes with continues or something.

My friend in Adelaide claimed to have spotted a shop with DDP:R in it recently - it was some kind of exotic collector's shop and there was only one or two copies, no doubt imported personally by whoever runs the place. Certainly haven't seen it new in actual retail stores though it'd be nice if I was wrong and it's just Darwin sucking hard rather than Australia sucking hard.

Reminds me of the weirdest thing I ever saw in a US video game store: an Australian PSP UMD Video copy of Alien 3.

I was at a Gamestop out in the middle of nowhere in Maine once, and they had three unopened but disheveled Deathsmiles LEs stacked in a corner. Felt sorry for 'em.

Yep, I bet he's talking about Shin Tokyo - they cater to the anime/figurine/funky retro t-shirt contingent down here in Adelaide. At one point they used to stock actual NTSCJ imports for PS2, but stopped when dickheads kept bringing the games back complaining that they didn't work on their machines

Now they just stock the localized stuff, but I bet they had to import DDPDFK from England. I saw Psyvariar Complete there as well (got a PAL release, unlike the US).

Actually they do have some real asian imports still, but only for region free stuff. There is nothing exotic about Shin Tokyo, unfortunately.

There are no import shops in or around Adelaide anymore, not real ones (importing stuff from UK doesn't count). In the nineties there was a place in Blackwood that had NTSCJ games for the Saturn/PSX era, but that joint is long gone. I got a US PSX on launch from there as well MK3, took me ages on the bus to get there, good times :)

But it's OK to link to it?

So Grasshopper's contribution was entirely constrained to the game's aesthetic - not sure if there was any STG experience at Grasshopper Manufacture in the first place.
Seems that at this point it would be useful to leverage any G.rev connections to get some insights into the historical STG game design and implementation philosophies - it is not like there are academic "STG design studies" classes.
Though it is not clear whether they ever plan to try another STG - lets face it, 2D action platformers are more marketable.

They made a terrible vert STG minigame for No More Heroes (dunno about the sequel).

Yep, even is this game isn't a great shmup, I'll pick it up to support people like Grasshopper bringing games to PC.

Kalypso is publishing the game online. I'm trying figure out what kind of DRM this thing will have, and this is on their store page.
A Steam account, registration with enclosed serial code and internet connection are required to play.
The internet connection thing scares me. Is that just for the installation or do you always have to be online to play this single player shooter?

For steam you just log in and buy the game. And you can launch the client in offline mode anytime but achievements and leaderboards will most likely not work

Kalypso has had extra crap in their past games though, like another program that has to login each time you play the game on top of Steam.

Excellent! A PC port with even more additional ways for the developers to royally screw you over and make you want to rip your eyeballs out! :D
