TOTAL CONTROL

Post by Sir Arthur ahf »

Hi guys,

I do not really like DC official stick from Ascii. I am used to the EX SE (360) and I do not feel comfortable.

I have found these adapters on Play Asia, but I am not sure if they have lag or not.

How do you connect other GOOD stick from Saturn/360/PS2 to the Dreamcast?

Thanks!

They are good, no lag. I have a plus version (the only playstation one with a memory card adapter). After 1 year the memory card port stopped working. Someone else posted the same exact thing in the reviews on PA. Maybe this is why they don't sell it anymore.

Not having a memory card is a pain, because you may have to remap controls every time.

Typically you open up the stick and rewire it; for dreamcast I guess you'd need to hack up a pad (or you can probably reuse the PCB from your ascii stick).

Not sure about how good that adapter would be.

You are using a Dreamcast, why would you need a memory card??? U can use a second controller and plug the visual memory...

Do you recommend me the SS (a guy from Play Asia says it has lag) adapter or the PS2 adapter?

I guess if you never plan on playing any 2 person fighters, you won't have any problems then. (!!!)

I guess you could load a save and then swap one controller out (pain with a cab). But I actually threw those god awful controllers away.

It was just a heads up about the plus, if you found one somewhere. I've never used the SS one.

edit: forgot the DC has 4 ports

I've used the Playstation one before and it works very nicely.

I think there might be a button mapping issue though like trap15 mentioned, depending on how your joystick is wired.

That's why I've switched now to an MC Cthulhu, which is something else you can consider.

A dual-mod with a 360 HRAP should be pretty simple, I think Marcus sells a separate board for that as well?

Otherwise I could replace the stick for an LS 56, but it is getting difficult to find.

Do you know any place I can find it?

Wich one do I need? The LS-56 or the LS-56-01

They do have a description of each, so you should be able to tell from that.

Basically the -01 variants have PCB-mounted microswitches and a 5-pin hookup. It's generally much easier for wiring, but it depends a lot on how the stick you're replacing is wired.

The standard version doesn't have the PCB or 5-pin harness, so you need to wire two connections (signal and ground) to each of the 4 microswitches.

I'd recommend the -01 version, even if your original stick doesn't have a PCB. 5 wires is fewer than 8, and less complicated is always preferable to me.

Couldn't you use the 3 or 4p port for the DC controller with VMU?

I guess (I never tried). Do all games allow you to load from an arbitrary port? In general I prefer to have less junk around, and to have features that I buy work.

I'm pretty confident they do. That being said, I haven't had problems with my total control + as far as VMUs go so far.

I've got one of those Total Control 3 adapters and it works like a charm with using an SS Twin Stick setup on a DC to properly play the DC port of Virtual On: Oratario Tanagram. There's a dedicated VMU slot if it needed be on the TC-3 itself.
