IGS PGM Motherboard Battery leakage

Post by Vyxx »

Just like many other PCBs, These IGS PGM Mobos come with a Varta battery, much like the one found on PGM based hardware like Cave's DDPDOJ, Ketsui, & Espgaluda. Battery is hidden in the corner under the plastic case. Mine was starting to go (just recieved in the mail today).

Anyone with a PGM mobo make sure to check yours.

Looks much better now that it's cleaned up, forgot to take a pic of that.

Finally looked this one up, found this on Wiki:
A sales slogan was "you're smarter to fit Varta!" in the mid 1990s.

most likely high scores, but i only own one cart right now and it has zero soft dip settings. but yea it will be fine without the battery, gonna do a coincell mod on mine in a couple of days.

I just got a PGM mobo with corrosion, though strangely the battery doesn't show any leakage/crystals. I used vinegar, let it dry, and it seems like the traces are holding up, no issues (though when I initially turned it on the day I got it there were some lines and scrambled sprites).

Unfortunately without the battery, I need to go into settings every time I turn it on to change three preferences: no attract sound, 1 coin = 1 credit (defaulting to 3 coins), and no continue.

Has your coincell replacement held up? That's worked fine for my Neo Geo.

Update: actually it's back to the way it was, lines and mangled sprites. There's so many traces with corrosion that I'm not sure it can be fixed.

I followed the coin cell mod on Jamma Nation X for my PGM mobo and haven't had any issues after months of play. It now saves scores and settings once again which is great.
