My very first (and only post at Network54) shmups post:

Little did I know the PS version of Gunbird was wobble-only and my search for a new copy would end up costing me $50 for a used one.August 10 2002 at 10:49 PM Rob
Where did you find a new copy of PSX Gunbird? More importantly, are there more where that came from?

More importantly though, where's Fev?
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

After rediscovering shmups (took a few year's pause) I refound the genre with Gunbird 2. Looking for some info on past shmup favourites (Super Laydock, Salamander, etc.) I found the shmups.com site with the then present MK2 forum.
This forum is still by far my favourite hang out on the internet today.

Fev is alive and well. I don't think she posts here any more though.
I know she's around because she was our first fan to buy our CD" Ride the Boss" , from Vodkatron.
I'm sure a lot of the data can be retrieved from the internet archives.Icarus wrote:The fourth was at Gamespy. Wow, I wish I could remember when I first joined. I remember seeing Twitch having a flamewar with someone named something like Green Tengu (???) over how tate was or was not elitist (gosh, nothing changes!--well other than Twitch being way more laid back now and not having women appear and dissapear in his avatar!) OK, I know I was on the old MK2 board at some point in 2003. 2002??? I know it was before Ikaruga came out.

Yea, I remember. I really don't rememeber how things escalated to that point though.
I was stating why I buy imports, with a "stiff stance" on the subject... Because most games of that type never make it over here, and when they do, too many things are usually left out IMO. I was then refered to as an elite harcore asshole due to the fact that I prefer the import versions. So I fought back.

BTW: If anyone has any links...lets just let that thread die and stay dead? Agreed?
I joined late 2003. I had been lurking way before that though. It's a great site and the folks on these forums are generally good people.. Sure there is the odd fuckwit that drops by, but they don't usually last all that long.
There are a few forum members that have gone since these forums went back up in the new year, (thanks for that link Action Jackson
), maybe they just changed their handle.

As far as BulletMagnet goes this thread comes to mind.
(I just saw that thread and I remembered this thread and I laughed)

Just thought I'd say this before I get flamed from all 7 directions

OK then, I'll admit to being jealous to his post count, to save someone the trouble of accusing me, you see how social I am?

i've been here for a few years (02, i think), although i can't remember my screen name from the old days. i didn't post much anyways, as i was terrified of the community then (i had to credit feed to get past level one of dodonpachi). now as most will attest, i practically live here.
oh, and turn out the light when you're done, i'm trying to get some shuteye.

I remember when I joined, the "hot shmup", which seemed to be the one everyone was playing, which was the shmup of all shmups was Soldier Blade.
I dont remember why or how, but I have from my memory that everyone would always somehow state how excellent Soldier Blade is, how everyone should play Soldier Blade.
Nowadays I wonder if most people even know this game
The time when Ikaruga was going to be released also was irritating... of every 3 topics, 2 were about Ikaruga

It’s considerable that 760 users have made less than 20 posts!
That’s surprising if you consider how fast the forums get updated. At times it almost feels like a chat room rather than a message board.
Almost in real time!

At any rate, I discovered this site in late 2004 after Googling for "2D shooters", and at that time, was just emailing Malc back and forth. I was, and remain, simply astounded at the amount of information in the Xenocide Files on shmups! At any rate, I first joined the forum in March of 2004.
I definately agree that it would be better to have information up on the screen stating how long each forum member's been here, rather then post counts.

I never got the full story on this, but Japanese Gaming was/is on Gamespy. (dynamic5 -- Shmups was on dynamic4) and it's always been completely intact. What did Gamespy officially say? Unlucky? I just can't imagine them NOT having a backup of their Unix servers. If you need a refresher, Gamespy's servers went *boom* and the massive store of info on the old databases is virtually unretrievable.
