I find this kinda depressing:
- not that I'm ungrateful for someone reblogging one of my GIF sets - but to accompany a Harlock post with this:

is, well, depressing to be honest, I don't understand why people don't look at anime as 'art of the time' and respect it in that way (if you know what I mean). I've never heard anyone go, 'ffs them Greek icons are lame, no sense of perspective...' .
I for one love the Harlock/Yamato style and the dream sequences in Harlock especially are some of my favourite combinations of music with imagery ever...
This, to me, seems to be the predominant attitude in anime fandom nowadays: Anything old is "lame." This extends further into other areas of art: writing, music, films, painting, sculpting, photography, etc. Ask yourself, when was the last time you met someone who's read a translation of Ovid... and LIKES it

Haha, I have to say I honestly did enjoy translating Ovid in school .
I just finished Space Pirate Captain Harlock TV - proper liked the ending, and while for say the first 10 episodes I wasn't fully into it, by the end I adored it.

Wtf was going on with Rafflesia having human blood? Is it explained mentioned anywhere else?
just watched Galaxy Express 999 movie, loved it though some things didnt seem to totally tie together for me, but then again maybe if I'd seen the series they would have, character animation was beautiful.
From what I gather, she was actually human. Her back story is unknown, but one can see she has the same dedication to her cause as Harlock, regardless. A fitting, humanistic "villain", really. Another reason why the show is so damned melancholy.

That movie used to air every year around Christmas time in Latin America and it was my first exposure to Matsumoto Leiji's style

watching Herlock: Endless Odyssey - I'm enjoying it and the art is amazing, but watching the original Harlock, then Galaxy Express 999, and now this in a row is extremely confusing :p - I know you're supposed to just ignore any semblance of continuity, but it's so difficult when so much stuff seems the same...
watchin Cosmo Warrior Zero - really liking how it combines Yamato and Harlock elements - the Battlyzer for instance, I noticed there was a kinda Battlyzer type robot in Harlock, but this one is properly the same as the Yamato one (well if my memory is right )....

Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water is a great series. Gainax's last great creation--along with Otaku no Video--before they went crazy with Evangelion and the inevitable "money train." The plot is an interesting take on 20,000 leagues--albeit loosely--that superbly mixes action, drama, mystery and romance. The characters are quite unique, the music is groovy, and the ending really delivers and feels complete. Probably one of my favorite series. There's a bit of plot thrown in the middle to cash-in on ratings, primarily due to the producers, but I still found it enjoyable. The DVD sets are really cheap and still easy to find, as well.

I'm deffo gonna watch Nadia eventually, it's just that for me sci-fi, space opera and or robots always come first in my list
I was really excited for this, but it looks like they are forced to go the same route as they did with their Kimba, the White Lion release. I was getting worried with Rightstuf/Nozomi as of lately, or at least in the direction of some of the titles they've been releasing after Dirty Pair. Certainly excited to see them release something older, yet disappointed it's the edited, English dub. Still maybe worth picking up, most notably since the series doesn't seem to be available at all, be it JP DVD or digital raws. Still, for those who haven't seen the Kimba set...it's pretty bad. Really grainy, terrible sound, English dub only, and a high price to boot.

No excitement for their Rose of Versailles release?
Utena is their best license anyways, Roes of Versailles is a good companion to that.
Haha, don't know how I missed that! Yep, definitely excited for that as well. I had a crap copy of the entire series, but it was too grainy for me to stand. It'll be nice to finally see this one without squinting .

I acquired the R2J DVDISOs with subs authored into them (it was really big but there wasn't any other watchable copies on the net), but I'll be buying their Versailles release to support good underappreciated anime.
The DVDs will look great btw. If their Utena release is any indication, it will literally be the R2J discs reauthored 1:1 with subs and English menus, and the R2Js for RoV look great.
Yeah, Righstuf/Nozomi generally do a damn good job on their releases. Irresponsible Captain Tylor and Dirty Pair are all superb releases. I dunno what went wrong with Kimba; I find it hard to believe it was impossible to clean up the picture and audio. Regardless, if they keep going as they have been, I won't be the least bit worried.

watched ep. 7 of Shin Mazinger Z - gettin a lot better now IMO, tbh while I didn't dislike anything so far - I think the first 5 episodes or so are a bit too kinda 'scene setting'...
on a side, I was grabbing some wallpapers by taking screenies from Gunbuster - seriously when you really look at it, and especially as you're grabbing individual frames, the amount of different techniques and sheer detail put into the space scenes is incredible.
Photocopies, halftone patterns, what appears to be literally scratches on film letting light come through, multi coloured paint splashes and blobs. Just amazing IMO.
