I've been playing it on and off, and I don't really understand the scoring in normal or max mode. It seems like Max mode wants you to rapid shot small enemies and laser large ones, sort of like Dodonpachi, to keep your multiplier flashing, which I can only assume is a good thing. Still, it takes an inordinately long amount of time for me to earn large gems instead of small ones. I heard before the game's 360 release that rapid firing enemies raised your counter and lasering them cashed them in, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
As you can see I'm pretty much lost. I only understand that point blank = good. So, if you guys had any tips I'd really appreciate it.

It would help to know if this is about Original or Maniac/Ultra since those are completely different.
Original is just getting more gems by point blanking things, Original Max is a bit more complex with the counter value rising but still essentially same, Maniac/Ultra is more or less same as in 1.0 so any guide for that should help.
