Question about Qanba Q4RAF modding

Post by CDexWard »

Hi,

so far I have been playing with a Mad Catz TE stick but I am pretty sick of the design and the artwork. I'm considering getting a Qanba Q4RAF from Gremlinsolutions and saw that they also have Seimitsu joysticks in stock. If I ordered a LS-56 along with the Qanba, is all I need to use it with that stick the MS mounting plate? And does it matter if it's a LS-56 or LS-56-01? I'd like to only order once because the shipping from the UK to Germany is pretty high. And what about restrictor plates or gates, is there anything I need to be aware of? I'm not really familiar with all that because I never modded the TE stick, just used it out of the box.

Additionally I'd like to change up the colors a little bit. Those clear colored buttons and balltops look very nice. Does anybody have a suggestion which colors work on the black and white Qanba panel?

best regards

Just as a suggestion, why not mod your te? You can easily swap in a seimitsu stick and change the buttons. And changing the artwork isn't difficult either. Check out "art's hobbies" (google it, i'm posting from my phone :) ). They sell plexiglass for the te and can print out high quality artwork. He has photoshop templates on his site for you to use, so you can make your stick look however you want.

No knock on the qanba, it's a decent stick. But when you get up in that price range there isn't a whole lot of difference between the different stick brands. Te is top tier and the qanba is really almost the same in essence.

Especially as the both have the (crappy) Vewlix layout.

Qanba is dual modded out of the box but indeed it would be cheaper to just buy something like a PS360+ and shove it in your TE.

Personally I'd say sell the TE and grab a PS360+ and a VSHG. ;)

An honest question, what makes the Vewlix layout crappy? I've had no problems with it while using my Q4RAF.

Doesn't really matter for shmups but I far prefer Astro for fighters.

Well, the fact that the Qanba is dual modded makes it so appealing because I don't have any kind of stick for my PS3 so far. Well, there's not a lot of shmups on PS3 either but for those few games it would definately help. So, did I get it right, is the MS mounting plate all I need to put an LS-56-01 into the Qanba?

I`ve made just some transparent faceplates for the Q4 with Sega Button Layout. This modding kit contains a new metal palte with precut holes for an universal mounting of joystick units and acryl transparent plate.

Here are some examples from TE with hitbox layout since I`ve not posted any pics for the Q4, but I will do

The metal plate and acryl plate are CNC Cut. In the above example no artwork is used. But one can easily imagine that an artwork can be assmebled. Have a closer at the edges. All edges are rounded, flame polished and the polished again. This avoids the hard and sharp edges from laser cut acryl.

I`ve also made some colored plexi.
