Super Famicom headphone jack mod?
Super Famicom headphone jack mod?
Anybody know if its possible to put a headphone jack in a Super Famicom (like what the Mega Drive and Duo had), and if so, do you have instructions? Thanks!

Re: Super Famicom headphone jack mod?
With the later two revisions of the PC Engine Duo-R and the Duo-RX consoles, NEC did away with the cool built-in headphone jack output + volume control as well to save on overall production costs per console. I'm sure it wouldn't be that hard to add such an internal headphone jack upgrade/mod for a SFC or the latter Duo-R/Duo-RX consoles.
Sure, even NEC had included a built-in headphone jack output + volume control on the USA region Turbo Duo console during it's official American launch debut back in October of 1992.

You could probably get one of those female headphone jacks, strip some of the wire and solder the wires right to the A/V connector pins (check GameSX for the pinout on that). Maybe put a pot between the plug and the pins to control volume.

You need an amplifier. Line level would be too quiet.trap15 wrote:You could probably get one of those female headphone jacks, strip some of the wire and solder the wires right to the A/V connector pins (check GameSX for the pinout on that). Take your line level stereo, feed it through an amplifier, wire it to a female phono jack.
You could even gut an amp from old PC speakers if you didn't want to make one yourself.

since when is the AV Line level to LOW for headphones ? It's usually too loud. Line level is about 7.5/10 on classic cassette decks with headphone ports. Same on the PC Engine. Headphone to about 7/10 equals the line level on the AV port.
